Financing really in place??

From the post.
“We have all the investors, all the finance, all the money we need.” Talal Al Maiman said. This can be only good news for the project.

I won't lie, I really like the building ITSELF. It seems very futuristic and could go well in any postmodern city.

I'll leave my strong personal feelings about the SETTING of it out of this thread.

IMO this is nicer than Burj Khalifa.

But are you sure it's under construction? Those looks like piling works to me...

I was actually in Smith + Gill's office this weekend for a tour. No less than three times was the host asked how tall this building would be. He refused to answer every time, basically only saying it would be over 1000m and the final height isn't that specifically known to them. I know this is probably nothing new, but I found it amusing.

The most exciting thing I did learn is that the building isn't using dampers.

For our purposes, piling is construction.

Wind tunnel test model on display at Smith+Gill. . .

For the record Smith+Gill is NOT the source of my recent post related to construction status. . .

They're actually building it! Oh gracious!

Step aside, Dubai. It's twice as tall as Taipei 101, the world's tallest building only 5 years ago. Insanity.

This looks quite a bit like that mile-high tower that someone envisioned in Chicago in the early half of the last century. I forget what it was called, but even the base looks similar.

Tom, there appears to be a few supertalls near the wind test model it in that photo. Are some of those actual proposals (except the one partially behind the tower, which appears to be a regular model) for the area around Kingdom Tower?
