Yep, they definitely must have done something with the height -- I was under the impression from the renderings/original plans that Coast was to be slightly shorter than Swissotel. This is a nice surprise.

Thanks Spyguy. Looking pretty darn sharp. I'm liking phase II a bit more than phase I at the moment based on these renderings, but looks very high quality overall.

So, the Chicago Journal reported that Ald. Reilly is insisting that there will indeed also be a future public school at Lake Shore East, in addition to GEMS. According to Reilly, building GEMS in no way releases Magellan from their obligation to build the infrastructure and shell for a future CPS school at LSE. Of course, date is unknown, as there is no CPS capital allotted at this time for the build-out of said future school, and there's no indication of optimism for such allottment at any point in the near future....

At any rate, I think this is great news to hear. I truly think there is an enormous demand for public school capacity in the greater Loop area that is not even close to being met (it's a bit of a chicken-and-egg game to quantify the demand in terms of actual numbers, because of course huge drove of parents end of moving away from the greater loop to the suburbs or other city neighborhoods - but probably largely to the suburbs - instead of dealing with what they perceive is a daunting challenge presented by lack of available slots at high-quality downtown area public schools, or parting with a fortune by way of a downtown area private school)...

Is that huge board going to stay there?

No, it's just couchsurfing. It promised us it's only staying a couple of weeks.

Seriously, though, if you look at the render of Phase 2 of the school (which is just a few posts above), you'll see that the "board" is the solid wall that will directly abut the new school. That wall will probably stay for some time. Or The Coast will have some serious water intrusion issues moving forward.

I wonder what the unit value difference is between the east facing first unit with a view above the wall compared to the lower unit behind the wall.

Thanks for the pic George - has this topped-out? By my count they're @ 46 already...unless that does't include the additional two floors ?

The likely only difference will be the price difference between floors (usually ~10/mo/floor) The walled units wont rent as fast as the other lower floors but after most of the cheaper units are scooped up, potential renters will be comparing prices for a unit on floor 5 versus say the comparable unit on floor 35. That
$300/m difference will make a lot of people opt for the walled unit.

Is it normal for balcony railing to take this long to start installation? I know we saw some samples a month or so back that were glass. It's unfounded, I know, but my worry is they will lose the beautiful glass railings and go with some VE metal ones. IIRC railing on Aqua didn't start for a very long time, due to (positive) revisions. The similarities in a seemingly late start are the reasons for my wondering. VE railing would be a transitivity IMO since so much of Coast's architecture stems from it's full facade balconies. I hope I'm just worrying for no reason.
