I have a feeling that these same teenage friends of yours would not be reading the newspaper in the first place.

Dude, don't turn town an opportunity to take credit where it is due. If anything, it improves your image in the eyes of a future employer if they Google your name. Having your name show up in search results (for doing good things, that is) on winnipegfreepress.com etc shows employers that you are a passionate, hard-working, intrinsically driven individual (those are the best kinds of employees btw). Life tip, straight from the source.

It was most visible in the farmyard animals section, which I didn't bother going to because the zoo here has the same thing. I wanted to see animals our zoo didn't have. Like ground squirrels, and peacocks all over the fucking place making a god-awful racket.

For all the good things I have heard about Assiniboine Zoo I honestly didn't find it much more impressive than the dumpy little thing we have back home. It was simply bigger and had a tiger. I don't think the tiger liked it. The Polar Bear exhibit will greatly improve it, but the entire zoo really needs a makeover.

I still have enough internet garbage from when I was 15 (and ALOT less mature) that'd also be brought up on Google when my name is searched.

Next time for sure!

Yeah I remember reading that in something when I was there. What is the time line?

The zoo will try to have quieter, better behaved animals in place in time for Vid's next visit. In conjunction with that effort, he will also be able to sample the all-new peacockburger at the cafeteria (while supplies last).

The highly optimistic goal is to have the complete makeover done before 2020. However, JTC has been pushed back to 2013. There are major budget shortfalls that keep scaling back the opening date/future projects. Fortunately JTC has no scaling back from what I have heard, however most of the other projects have felt the sting.

Remember also that over half of APZ's species are currently off display due to construction. Had you made your debut appearance three years ago before Debbie died you would have seen a half decent zoo (for the amount that the city threw into it anyways).

For some reason the new development calls for a water treatment plant, not sure what for but it is a fairly expansive development.

Here is a picture I took before work a couple of weeks back.

New branch of the Carpathia Credit Union is replacing the old Shell Station on the n/e corner Here are the renderings from the Cibinel Architects web site. http://www.cibinel.com/portfolio/82/...spx?category=4

I wonder what is wrong with the s/w corner of Grant and Waverly, the old Esso lot has been vacant for years. There are rezoning applications for it from time to time but nothing ever seems to come of it.

Notice how the Esso lots at Sturgeon Rd and Queen St never get developed either? It's weird...

Thanks. I thought there was a Tim Horton's or something else with a drive through on the Esso site a few years ago that might've made people nervous? Although the CCU has a drive through ATM.

I've actually called Esso a couple of times about a few properties but they weren't anxious to talk. There is a leasing opportunity sign on Corydon/Waterloo but I'm not sure if its going ahead. Doesn't look like it.

There are 4 old Esso sites in the n/e part of Winnipeg that have been sitting empty for years. In the old days they may have been converted into a restaurant but now most chains require a drive through so the lots are too small.

Esso also pulled out completely in the City of Selkirk as far as I know.

Other than the grocery and big box stores adding gas bars I don't think any of the big refiners have opened a new gas station a long time here in Winnipeg.

The site at Portage and Queen St was going to be the home of the new fire station now being build in the Route 90 interchange. But the city dithered too long and other land required next to it changed owners so if they wanted to build there they would have to expropriate the land that had just sold driving up the cost.

Theres still an Esso location on Highway #7 near Stony Mountain. Franchisee possibly? It's been there since I was a kid at LEAST, and they built a car dealership right beside it around 2007-2008.

You are going to like it!

Its just in preliminary development now, but has the potential to fill in that entire block from Princess to Adelaide, with some very unique features...

Can't say much now, but there is a rush on, so hopefully something will pan out in the next 4 to 6 months.

That sounds awesome. I think I'm overdue for a walk through the exchange district both east and west of Main St.

Also, interesting to see the 'under construction' notice on the residences at Centrepoint page.

There truly is great momentum is nearly all construction sectors around the city these days.

Thanks everyone for keeping me (and everyone else) informed!

This is an independant Esso site. Pioneer oversees these independants. In the last little while there has been a lot of improvements to their sites with new pumps, tanks and canopies. David Abas(Stony Mountain site) is revamping his c-store along with re-opening the restaurant there that has been closed for years.
