Strange that they would not make SFPR Phase 1 go as far as Bridgeview. Surely that one extra kilometre could be built in time for Phase 1.

Contractually, SFPR is only to open up to 136th and temporarily route traffic onto 115th to connect to Bridgeview.

This has to do more or less with the intersection/interchange (not sure which anymore) planned for Bridgeview, and the fact it won't be done in time for December.

The connection to 136 Street south of the SFPR is temporary, and will be removed once Bridgeview is opened.

Drove past the bridge this morning and they are in the process of taking the North crane down too.

I have driven along River Road twice a day for almost half of my lifetime. River Road to Nordel to Tilbury.

Then I changed jobs earlier this year and for a whim decided to retrace my old driving route. They've made changes!

They started paving the new Lougheed Hwy eastbound lanes last week through Cape Horn north of Hwy 1. Looks like all the foundation work is complete.

Still lots of work to do on the south side of Hwy 1 however with the overhead overpass work. I guess as soon as they can get heavy equipment out they will start to work on the eastbound Lougheed Hwy lanes on that side of the highway.

3 of the 4 lanes are now looking completed for a short stretch between Willingdon and Kensington eastbound on the #1, and I can say the end product, if consistent, will look really good!

There is quite a long stretch between 152 St and 200 St where the roadwork and interchange work seems mostly done. 152 looks pretty good. 160 St seems to be using the final alignments and crews are out working on curbs and sidewalks. Same with 176 St, and there is even a lot of work done with the intersection for the SFPR. All 4 lanes seem be be paved complete with line markings (for 4 lanes) almost the entire way from 160 to 200 St. Mainly all that's left to do is what lookes like a huge drainage pipe or culvert under the highway (around 192 St) to install and finish up the area around 200 st and the park and ride.

Oh, and the sign on the 160 St exit does say "104 Ave (North)" and "104 Ave (South)" and the writing is very very very small. It's wrong but almost impossible to read. Hopefully it is temporary. One night when I was going through there the car infront of me slammed on the breaks to read the sign then switching lanes back and forth, undecided which one was right.

Yeah south of the Fraser is far ahead of north of the Fraser, and it is looking good IMO. Drove it two weeks ago. The HOV only ramp area looks really cool as well.

I was told by the Port Mann people at Fusion Fest that I could bike over the bridge in December. It doesn't seem likely to me as the path is on the east side and the east side will be missing sections of bridge. Any thoughts?

There'll probably be a temporary ped/bike lane at each end of the new bridge diverting to the road deck area.

Looks like the bike overpass (to United Blvd) has been erected:

Tell me about it. I'll be back this December - almost 18 months since my last visit home.

I drove along United Blvd. last night on my way home from Ikea, just for kicks. I gotta say, getting onto Highway 1 from United right now is an utter ass-pain. Drive all the way along to the Cape Horn, up to Lougheed, double-back to almost where I started at, then drive aaaaaaaaaround and finally onto Highway 1?

Please, please, please tell me this is only temporary and the final product will be much better.

I think the only access to Highway 1 from United will be via Brunette/Lougheed/King Edward in the west, and via Lougheed (past the Cape Horn) in the east, if my impression from the drawings is correct. There is access onto United right in the interchange but I think this might be truck-only... not sure though. The map is at http://www.pmh1project.com/in-your-c...t-Designs.aspx

If you want to go #1 Eastbound the diagram a few posts above shows a direct onramp from United to the #1.

At one time, the ramps directly between Hwy 1 and United Blvd were touted as "Trucks Only" - those are the ones in purple and yellow above and below the words "Highway 1" on the above diagram. Not sure if they still are.

As the Port Mann bridge replacement nears completion, Transportation Minister Blair Lekstrom says he is "optimistic" that the toll can be lowered below $3 per crossing, at least for the first year.
Quote:
Lekstrom said he's also confident that the promised rapid bus service will be in place from day one. If TransLink's $30 million funding shortfall isn't covered by savings from an ongoing audit of the regional transit group, he said he's committed to work with communities to find the money.
