Whoa! Talk about a heavy-duty building stock; STL definitely was built to hang with the best. Those residential neighborhoods look absolutely gorgeous. And what is this behemoth?! It definitely warms my heart seeing that people care enough about places like STL to renovate homes/buildings, and open new businesses. That said, good work!

Kingofthehill-- that building you asked about is the old Southwestern Bell tower, which is still part of the regional headquarters for AT&T. You are correct, St. Louis was built to be a grand metropolis. It ranked as a top 10 American city for over 120 years, and it surely shows. I wish more people took time to explore cities beyond just what they read in newspapers and guidebooks. STL is a showstopper.

Ha! I worked in that building in the 1980s. And my mother worked in that building in the 1950s before she married. I think it is kind of cool that my mother and I worked in the same office building decades apart.

Yeah, St. Louis deserves a much better geography and a much better state than it got. The fucker was here before any of that mattered. The reelfoot rift never did split open the Delta up to the confluence of the Missouri and the Mississippi River like an American Red Sea, but of course, if it had, St. Louis would have been a truly, classically great nasty ass, important-besides-itself big enough saltwater port city.

I could be mistaken, but I believe this white house was the home of George Hellmuth, as in Helmuth, Obata & Kassabaun (HOK).

I hereby propose a name change for the City of Saint Louis: It shall now be known as Heaven On Earth. That's more appropriate.

Beautiful Pictures especially of the Shaw neighborhood. Only wish the Shaw neighborhood had more businesses along grand and intra-businesses as well.
