I've spoken with someone in their organization about 3 months ago on the chances of the proposed hotel being built. At the time, they noted that there was an intent to have it constructed but there was no definitive word. I believe they are in a wait-and-see mode. No time frame that I am aware of. First, they would complete a 6-some-odd story parking garage, then the hotel.

I've watched this thing go up and have stayed fairly aware of news surrounding it, and I must say, I think it's going to be a huge, huge success. It's in a key location to drawl a slew of people. If I had to place a bet, no pun intended, I'd say they move forward with the hotel within 12-18 months.

I think there is a good chance of the Phase 2 being built soon after the parking garage goes up. Even though Sugarhouse has the most densely populated location, there will be huge competion from Parx and Harrah's and pressure to provide better amenities to lure people in. The other two casinos are always at the top of the list of PA's top grossing casinos and Parx is already expanding. It should be an exciting time in an otherwise down market.

Parx is already plannning and beginning to implement their plans for expansion now that table games are here. They hope to lure a different type of client with the table games in addition to the slots players. Table game players are more likely to bring their wives to get a massage at the spa, then have dinner, see a show, and stay at the hotel more so than slots players who are bused in for the day. Hopefully Sugarhouse will quickly expand as their revenues and profits starts rolling in the door. A full fledged casino with lots of amenities is more desirable than a slots barn in my opinion

Are they taking that "Merlino" boat out of the water? Looks like there is a crane on the far side of the site.

The parking garage and an expanded gaming area is part of Phase I. The facility opening on Thursday is termed "Interim". If all goes well construction on the garage could start in 6 to 8 months.

I can definitely see more bachelor parties opting to stay in Philly now rather than trek down to AC. The strip club element has always been present on Del Ave, now the final piece of the puzzle is in place.

Summersm, I believe it was the "interim" phase that is complete; the discussion on Plan Philly has been about SugarHouse's desire to make the parking garage smaller and keep a surface lot formerly slated for removal...

Current Phase 1A plan (please note PlanPhilly has it much, much bigger, if you care to scroll)...

...From the waterfront.

Stupid parking requirements...

Ahh interesting... so phase 1 is still underway? And what was approved was just a continuation of phase 1?

This week, SugarHouse, the city's first casino, filed a revised plan for an expansion of its Delaware River gaming hall, located on a site between Fishtown and Northern Liberties.
