At the risk of sounding like an idiot...what's going to happen to that section in the corner (with the windows). Will it be demolished? Or will it just not have windows any longer? lol

It probably just won't have windows any longer, which is very common in Manhattan construction projects.

Many, many buildings have windows that aren't protected by any building department rules. They can be covered up when a new building is built.

I assume they're building right to the lot line, and so the windows will be bricked up. Tough luck to the neighbors, but they knew what was eventually coming.

Only the windows directly facing the sidewalk are protected in perpetuity. A landlord adds windows to the other sides of the building at his own risk.

That makes sense....it is an office building so I guess it's not as bad as if it were a residential one.

Surprised this hasn't been posted on here. There was a great photo update on Curbed the other day with more details about the design. Looks like those windows in question will be in the rear yard portion of the building and mostly won't be covered. Anyway, to the photos:

There's word out there that concrete work will start in September.

I'm out of town, and a little slow to catch up on the news. I'm not sure if that 512 ft is from street level, hadn't had a chance to look at those plans.

That's 512.6 ft elevation, not height. The diagram gives a street level elevation of 37 feet, leaving a building height of 476 feet.

I walked by this site yesterday and it seemed that excavation was in full swing. I was walking east on 28th street and initially didn't realize that the activity was for this tower. Looks like the digging process is well underway. I was with some business colleagues so didn't get a chance to snap a picture.

Looks like they are constructing wells for the footings?? Could be wrong. Should this be moved to Under Construction?

Great news! As soon as those footings start going in the ground, this one will be moved to the Under Construction forum. NY is like an am/pm right now: so much good stuff (going up).

sorry for the bad picture angle, but this building is clearly should be moved to under construction. some of the footings have been poured today (evidenced by the concrete truck). and boaring for other footings is taking place now as well. Hopefully you can see the hydrolic boaring machine in the corner of the south end of the picture (left side)

the wood casings from the prior picture I had posted are all in and those are the casings for the footings that have just been poured.

Latest from less than 10 minutes ago. Lots of action. Beams and pile driver in place.
