I actually had a pretty good time at the Biltmore!

i didn't make it clear, so forgive me. the biltmore is remarkable and worth two or three trips yearly, but my point was about the wine. 10 or 12 years ago, a friend of ours gave us a case of wine from the biltmore estate, and i didn't think we would ever get rid of it. i actually think it may have been bottled when Jesus turned the water to wine---it just kept multiplying, even though we tried to use it in every way possible---shining shoes, making vinegar, paint removal, etc. terrible wine, beautiful country and an amazing estate. i would encourage anyone to go. in the same league w/ houses of newport news.

centropolis, i recently saw a nice photo of st. louis that was very flattering to the city skyline. it showed the arch in forward position, of course, and then the major part of the cbd. i have long heard that st. louis had municipal codes which disallowed skyscrapers to surpass the ht of the arch; however, in the photo, there appears to be a large scraper that is definitely above the ht of the arch. is this true about ht restrictions in stl? it is a pretty city, and i love visiting, as i have family who entertain me well, when i am in town. they live a bit north of st. louis, maybe not in st. louis county, fountainbleu to be exact, but we always go into the city. they attend the cathedral of st. louis. beautiful, and the 2nd finest example of mosaic artistry in the world.

my cousin has just moved to one of the neighborhoods that has a good deal of german and french late 19th and early 20th century homes. dunbar roofs, a great number of black iron gates, boxwoods, etc. recently i saw a wonderful history of st. louis on arts and entertainment. it really was good, and went into a great deal of material and history of the early beer barons, the suicides, society in st. louis, the beer business, and so much more. it is a wonderful city w/ wonderful neighborhoods. if i lived there, i would definitely pick out one of the edge communities in the city.

i don't understand why folk don't concentrate on st. louis, the river, and the wonderful things offered on the west side of the city, instead of always pointing out east st. louis. btw, i have friends in godfry and alton, too. alton is kind of nice, or it was when i visited, on my way to chicago.

I live in Northern Michigan, Traverse City to be exact, and I can say firsthand that the ad campaign seems to be working. The past few years have been incredibly busy almost year round with the only exception being around Christmas and Thanksgiving and the lull that comes after ski season until it gets warm enough to go the beach or more commonly known as spring.

The beaches/water, sand dunes, wineries and our growing food and craft brew/spirits scene keep people here all summer even when its not the cherry or film festival. That gets followed by the fall color tours and then the winter ski/snowmobile season. But summer is the busiest and where the hotels and little shops make their money. My girlfriend is a general manager at a hotel on the water and they have been at least 90% full all summer, even on a tuesday.

I have to tell one tourist joke though.
Why can't you get a blowjob in Chicago or Cleveland right now?
Because all the cocksuckers are up here. da-dum-tss. Sorry.

The Pure Michigan ads have really been ramped up on Canadian tv stations this summer too, with Ohio ads being a distant second. For some reason, Ontario tv stations are always bombarded with Ontario ads as well.

Do they air anywhere else? I have a feeling that the entire Ontario tourism ad budget is spent on commercials to broadcast on Ontario tv stations.

I've seen a couple of Ontario commercials in the past years but they aren't frequent.

We're like Ohio. We exist and there are a lot of us here, but there isn't really any reason for anyone else to come here.
