Lol yeah, people are spoiled. A 1000 footer doesn't look that tall when surrounded by some 700' and 800'+ towers right next door. Put One57 in Brooklyn and it will stand out for certain...

I think it's fine in terms of height, but I think it would be even better if it were at least 100-200 ft. taller.

The issue is that it dominates the neighborhood now, but upcoming projects will be much taller, and this building deserves to be a highlight of the area, IMO.

The same discussion was pretty rampant during the building of the Frost Tower in Austin (finished 2005). It's a fantastic building, so much so that Marina 101 in Dubai is pretty much an exact ripoff, only taller. Anyway, Frost is just over 500 feet tall. When it was built it was 100 feet taller than the current tallest in Austin. People thought it should go even taller but others said it would stick out too much in the skyline. Now look at it with the Austonian nearby at 684 feet. The moral here is that all other things being equal, there's nothing wrong with going taller.

Look at all this delicious surface parking. On topic, One57 has something like 50-100 ft to go with the curve on top. It will be quickly surpassed by all the crazy 57th st development, though.

I hung out in Sheeps Meadow today and got to admire this thing from Central Park (finally). In person it does seem incredibly tall, and I love how the Essex House sign is reflecting in the glazing. Nice touch.

1715 Broadway is also quite visible from this angle. Its hard to even fathom how massive 225 W 57th will look from this vantage point if it lives up to its rumored heights.

I think a variety in height is good for the skyline, they can't all be the tallest. Also, I don't think a few hundred more feet is an issue with this one because it isn't a "profile" tower. I wouldn't turn down any extra height here, but the Tower Verre is a tower that needs that extra couple of hundred feet because the profile of the tower is part of what makes it so special for the skyline.

I took this yesterday afternoon, you can also see the top of the crane for 1715 Broadway.

This tower sure has made an impact on the skyline. Can't wait to see it in person next time I'm there.
