If people didnt waste HEAPS of food, we probably would be a lot better off as well.....or if people didnt think they needed 96 ounces of meat with every meal.....things would be different.

I find good BC fruit only in BC, and as you mentioned, some fruit stands. For some reason, grocery stores (my normal fruit souce, as I don't want to drive to a fruit stand) don't seem to stock good BC fruit anymore. There are exceptions, but what I see is that the BC fruit is the worst, even worse than the Washington State stuff usually. YMMV. Keep in mind when I say "junk" fruit it applies to most of the stuff in the stores these days. I'm a lot pickier than the average consumer - but the average consumer has not had the pleasure of picking a crisp dew soaked apple off the tree on a cool fall morning and eating it on the spot. One bright spot is that T&T stocks some of the best oranges I have ever tasted - best selection of types too, in season as always.

Grain finished beef is NOT better than pure grass fed. That's corn industry hype. Corn fed beef is mush. If you ever get the chance to have beef in Argentina, which is grass fed until the beeves are slaughtered, you'll see what beef is supposed to taste like and how much better it is than the shit they're forcing us to eat here (and moreso in the states where the corn policy has destroyed its domestic beef).

Cows are RUMINANTS and are not supposed to eat grain. They get sick off it and that's why grain fed and antibiotics have to go hand in hand. This is what's meant by "ethically raised" and the same principal applies to chickens, pigs, whatever. And this is the meat you get at the amazing Old School Emporium.

Sorry, I should have been more specific: barley finished beef is best. I agree that corn fed beef is not so good, although the Ontario Beef producers would disagree with me - guess what they feed cows there. I've had some decent grass finished Australian beef - leaner and more flavorful, but a bit too tough. I'd concede that you could potentially produce as good a steak out of grass fed - I have yet to see one, and tastes vary. To people used to corn fed steaks coming from Texas, our steak tastes funny. I really don't care about your whole natural / ethicially raised argument - if that's important to you feel free to pick a product that satifies your mores, but don't go using the argument that "natural" is automatically better.

Nobody ever said that. Don't put words in my mouth. There is no reason to force corn on beef except to create the fictitious demand underlying US corn policy. It's environmentally disastrous.

Read the first chapter of The Omnivore's Dilemma and start caring. This isn't about hippy preferences and you have to stop framing it this way.

Brunch at Borgo, shopping at Old School, dinner at Khao San Thai, and dessert at VIC = a perfect summer day!
(I did a few other things too that didn't involve food)

Thanks for the suggestion, this is where we ended up.
When the sandwich board out front says "servers needed" you know you're in for a slow night. Our server was very good but obviously had too many tables to look after. Monday night is not a peak time to dine out, but there were a couple of birthday parties going on in the restaurant.
I thought the food was good and very nicely presented.
It was a perfect summer evening and great to dine al fresco on SAW and watch the passing scene.
I still look forward to trying Canada Dosa Corner, Innersoul.

Does anyone know if the McDonald's in the Scotia Centre downtown will be two stories? It looks like there's construction happening on both levels. It would be great if we could have a double story McDonald's similar to what I've seen in Europe and Australia.

Vendome in Sunnyside has put up a temporary patio on the west side of the building. They say it's mobile so they are going to take it down for winter. It seems a little late in the season to put it up, but it looks great.

I was having a coffee at Gravity in the Atlantic Avenue buiding in Inglewood the other day and noticed that a new restaurant called Cinquecento Cucina is supposed to open there. No idea on dates.

Also, I noticed that Candela lounge on 4th is opening tomorrow. Anejo looks like it's about ready to open too.

Hopefully they can find a way to keep all of the bums and lowlifes out of there after the renovation. That McDonald's seems to attract even more losers than the one beside Crack Mac's. It wasn't really a place that one would want to sit down and eat.

It's inevitable imo. At the price point of McDonalds value menu, and the location being central dt, its where most homeless or "low-income" would eat. I know I would, if I was homeless and tight on cash.

I do think the new McDonalds will attract alot of business from night-time clubbers tho. Definitely its better than the hot dog stand outside of Flames Central.

Its kinda uncomfortable in that macdonalds....but that is life. I dont really care. Homeless have to eat as well. It a VERY interseting mix of people in there just minding their own business. All kinds in there, from business to homeless.

I'm looking forward to that opening up. Tried the Fatburger in Banker's Hall today. While it wasn't a bad burger, it sure wasn't worth the price. It cost me $10.50 for small pop and a bacon cheese burger.
