Gananoque in the Thousand Islands

Here are a few random shots from my first six months of living in Gananoque which is pronounced Gan-a-nok-way, however to the locals it is known simply as Gan. The town is located on the north shore of the St Lawrence river in the Thousand Islands region of Ontario 28 Kms East of Kingston. Gananoque is an aboriginal name meaning 'Town on two rivers', the population is approximately 5200. The town saw some action in the war of 1812 when American forces stormed a supply depot in the 'Raid on Gananoque'.

Nice pictures. This looks like it would be a good place to spend a lazy Summer week.

Beautiful tour - some fantastic Victorian buildings there. I wonder what this tower was built for?

Thanks for the comments!

xzmattzx - True, however in the summer a lot of people have the same idea!

Bedhead - I had a look and it seems like it was a gift to the town from a well to do resident, This surprises me given the robust construction of the tower!

Charming little town. I like the pic of the little kid riding his bike on the sidewalk - I can hardly remember the last time I saw a child out "playing" - almost like a step back in time!

Looks nice. Thousand Islands are a nice part of North America. Cute towns on both sides of the border.
