I find it hilarious (and a little disappointing) that, for all the bombast and batophobia it generated, the Nova Centre actually kind of hides behind the existing skyline when viewed from downtown Dartmouth.

Just found this wide angle. It really shows how developed large parts of the urban centre are, and you can also see there's still lots of room to grow on the peninsula and inner mainland.

All this, while also showing how small the boundaries of the "urban" part are - the change from urban to forest is quite abrupt around most of the boundary, with very little fringe.

I'd love to see the downtown from this vantage point in a year two - there will be a notable difference.

Not a skyline shot exactly, but I was walking south on Barrington last night and noticed how the glass above Espace adds a very cool splash-of-light effect above the street level and on the neighbouring buildings (photo doesn't quite do justice.) It creates a nice contemporary touch amid the historic facades, visible from a block or so away in each direction. Very urban feeling.



It's funny how the city's smaller developments are in some ways the ones that I keep noticing and being impressed by, at least as much as the larger ones. I think the same thing every time I go by Keith Hall. Just fixing that one building has improved the streetscape immeasurably.

NFB and the Green Lantern Building will, I think, be similarly transformative. Barrington will look a lot less dumpy in a few years.

(Hopefully something will be done about the Tramway Building.)

I always thought that the view of downtown coming over the bridge was pretty cool. Especially at night when you can see the lights of the signs on the top of the office buildings, the bright signs on Barrington Place stand out clearly and you can usually see the video board on the Scotiabank Centre too. It almost feels big cityish.
