I like the old look much better. By adding the glass it looks 100x worse.

I'm digging that they're keeping a good portion of the original facade. I think it's going to turn out pretty good.

I've never had a problem with the building design as it was though... but I do think that the verizon logo is an eyesore on that blank vertical wall, and makes the building's bland, utilitarian form stand out that much more.

If there was even one comparably-sized building to its north, we likely wouldn't give the building much thought at all.

It sucks too because of its proximity to the great towers of architectural significance.
That's one of the coolest, intimidating, hulking masses of concrete and granite there is. It, too, is of architectural and structural engineering significance. And I think it fits in very well with its surroundings. So does the NYT and many other architecture publications.

Maybe they should pull out all the telecom infrastructure, paint it white, add windows and balconies, and convert it to a Miami-style condo! How fabulous it would be!

I like that building, it looks like a bas-ass dieselpunk fortress!

City’s HRA takes 200K sf at 375 Pearl Street

Quote:
The city’s Human Resources Administration signed a lease for nearly 200,000 square feet at the former Verizon building at 375 Pearl Street, continuing a run of big-ticket leases in Lower Manhattan so far this year.

The city agency signed a 20-year lease for 193,821 square feet in the building, sources told The Real Deal. The lease covers part of the 20th floor and floors 21 through 25.

The financials of the deal weren’t clear, but asking rents in the building are reportedly in the range of $45 to $51 per square foot.

Any idea if/when the Verizon logo will be removed?

Wow...that renovation is terrible. It looks like they gave up halfway through....but oh well. I don't live in the city so I don't have to stare at it. (I like the original buildings architecture...this just looks like a massive disservice to the original architect)
