UAB gets a financial upgrade on our bond credit rating from AA- to AA by S&P Global. Hopefully this means we can break some ground and start putting up construction barriers and cranes real soon

Birmingham CEO makes $500 pledge for UAB football

Really can't wait for UAB to get back. They'll have so much momentum and support when they comeback. Actually can help change the shape of Birmingham with the support.

I'm excited about this project. Instead of expanding horizontally, this building is expanding vertically; part of UAB's desire to go vertical as opposed to horizontal.

Looking forward to UAB's future skyline.

Sorry, that would help to show the place. Payette is one of the Architects for designing this wonderful addition to University Blvd.

Site surveying and soil testing has begun on the site for the proposed College of Arts and Sciences building on the corner of 10th Avenue and 14th Street South. No renderings yet, however ground breaking is scheduled for sometime in 2017. But it should be a nice size building and it will finish the framing of the Campus Green.

According to an article on today's AL.com and the BBJ, UAB has bought the Double Tree Hotel by Hilton for 6.7 million dollars and plan a 15 million dollar upgrade, they are also going to hire a management company to run it and change it to a full blown Hilton.

UAB has broken ground on it new Collat School of Business building on 13th Street and University Blvd S., with construction starting Monday 19th of December.
UAB has completed soil testing for the new College of Arts and Sciences building on 14th Street and 10th Avenue S. with construction starting in mid to late 2017.
They have also started marking 10th Avenue South from the Business and Engineering Complex all the way up to 20th Street South for improvements including bike lanes, narrowing most of it to 2 lanes and landscaping, starting in the summer of 2017.

UAB is seeking approval from the U.A. Board of Trustees this week to tear down 7 buildings in the UAB foot print. The Worrell Building on 18th Street near 10th Avenue S., its a 5 or 6 story building once used as part of the School of Optometry, the restaurants Purple Onion and Formaggio's, the old Textmart/Robert Turner Optical building; the old grocery store building on 6th Avenue S. and the warehouse that houses the ROTC and some school of Engineering operations, and demolition or resoration of the Jefferson county Human Resources building on 5th Avenue and 14th Street South. What they will do with all that property will be determined later.

They've stated that their intent is to grow more densely and vertically in the future. That's one of the reasons their adding floors to the nursing building instead of building a new one.

I just pray to God that they don't use the real estate for surface parking....

Sorry to inform you but there is a strong possibility that some of these places will be surface parking hopefully for only a short period. The grocery store on 6th Avenue and 13th street along with the warehouse next door is slated for an intramural sporting complex, I have not seen anything planned for the Purple Onion area so perhaps a surface lot there. They are looking at building a 9 story 780 bed dorm with a 400 seat dining hall in about 2 years or so on the property directly across from Al's on 10th Avenue between 17th and 16th Street. They are also looking for a space for the ROTC program that's now housed in the building next to the old grocery store on 6th Avenue South.

Digging equipment is now on site. There's also 2 or 3 large trees and an art sculpture that has to be moved before digging can began. I think and hope the nice tree at the very corner of the site will remain.
