Found a promo video for the Transparent LED displays in the lantern; they are from a company called ClearLED Displays:

Excepy that the Ys are at the corners of imaginary squares, not hexagons :-S.

But his point is it would have made more sense if the ⅄s were staggered to form a hexagonal pattern. Birds couldn't care less about right angles, but the human eye will trace implied patterns.

Everyone is agog at the LED technology but I'll be harsh in saying that once the novelty wears off we're still stuck with a pretty clunky unrefined tower. The fit and finish and attention to detail in this addition is pretty bad, all the browns don't even match.

I'm not one to quibble about bilingualism, but the convention for signage in the Ontario side of the river is English on the left. How they managed to get this wrong not once but twice on the entrance is puzzling:

Speaking of non-matching browns the colour inside the lettering's counters (holes in the Os, Ds, etc) don't even match!

I was down there yesterday and I love the look and feel from the 'canal' side, during the walk across the sapper's bridge. From Elgin, I had thought the tower, or the underside of the tower would be more integrated with the entrance. Its just kind of rentable space off to the side from the upper level. The rest of the built-out area is fantastic. All in all it looks great. The large, 'cut out' mullions on the canal side look amazing. I like the flooring, love the connections to Southam Hall on multiple levels, and the coffee shop on Elgin will be a great place to hang out.

As far as language, the entire NAC is french-first in all signage. This means left to right, or top to bottom.

That signage lettering looks very cheap. I'm surprised to see the French preceeding the English. I thought that the policy for Ottawa was exclusively English first? Somebody's gonna be "outraged"!

I think they did French first on the tower because English first would have split the words where the three panels join together.

But that is exactly what happened on the left side in the photo below:

On a side note, Equator Coffee posted to Facebook that they currently have a "pop-up" café just inside the front entrance until the end of July, then they will set-up shop permanently in September:

The French on the left doesn't bother me but I was noticing the different coloured insides of the letters as you pointed out and oh Lordy that bugs the crap out of me. Such an irritating detail and so easy to fix. Please please please please fix it before opening!

It's surprising, but must conform to policy. I imagine, however, that there will be complaints.
