Anyone know what's going on at the building at 5th and Lavaca? As far as I can remember it's been sitting empty since Antone's moved to Riverside before moving back to 5th. There is currently either demo or a renovation going on.

While I'm glad the building is being restored, if something even five stories tall would go up on that lot it would hide the ugly blank wall on Fifth and Colorado from most views.

Perhaps a nice projection of a ping pong game.
Or "Pong".
Is kinda the right aspect ratio for a projection surface!

That's a great idea! Been wanting to see something happen with that blank space.

On another note, KVUE did a special about Austin's boom, the history about why we are dealing with the problems we are dealing with and also Code Next.

Here's a new site plan for a seven story student apartment building in West Campus by the same developer as Skyloft. It's called "Twenty Four Zero One" and will be located at 2405 Rio Grande.

https://abc.austintexas.gov/web/perm...ertyrsn=589424

Here's the location on Streetview:

Austin school leaders are moving forward with the high-profile sales of district headquarters, the Baker Center and the Millett Opera House (home of the Austin Club), among other surplus properties.

The school board on Nov. 27 is scheduled to vote on the sales of the following properties:

• the Carruth Center, the 2.7 acre district headquarters on West 6th Street, for $36.5 million to Schlosser Development of Austin, which made the highest bid. The minimum bid was $30 million.

• the Millett Opera House, for $3 million to the Foundation for the Preservation of the Historic Millett Opera House, the only bidder on the property. The minimum bid was $5.4 million.

• the Baker Center, a former school located in Hyde Park, for $10.6 million to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. The minimum bid was $10.6 million. Alamo plans to include single-family residences with 25 percent of them affordable housing units, with priority given to district employees and families with children who attend district schools.

Currently, the district does not have a location chosen for its new headquarters, but they have been working to identify possible locations. According to city records, the district does plan to lease back both the Carruth Center and the Baker Center for a period of time.

AISD selling 1111 W 6th Street main building to Schlosser. They may want to redevelop the site with office/multi-family.

AISD is purchasing Southfield Office Building at I35 & Ben White from the NY-based developer who just bought it.

That's cool. I mean, I guess it's an ok headquarters for them, though, I wouldn't have thought they'd be interested. I'm a little bummed they probably won't have that observation deck they mentioned in the article I posted. You know the view from that building must be incredible, especially from the roof where they flirted with the idea of a restaurant.
