The City of Nanaimo has received a development application calling for the construction of two five-storey condo buildings at 6540 Metral Dr., beside Cobs Bread bakery.

According to plans submitted to the city by De Hoog Kierulf Architects on behalf of Windley Contracting, one condo building would be 6,367 square metres and would have 41 one-bedroom units and 32 two-bedroom units. The second building would be 3,043 square metres and would feature 17 one-bedroom units and 15 two-bedroom units. Both buildings require height variances. A 105-square-metre commercial space is also planned for one of the buildings and each building will have underground parking.

A Vancouver developer is looking to build a highrise condo tower in downtown Nanaimo.

Wertman Development Corporation has purchased two properties on Chapel Street with the vision of building a tower of 20 or more stories.

The company hasn’t yet submitted a development permit application, but thinks that step could happen in mid-January.

The old proposal of the Georgia view towers both zoned for 20 stories. With the land prices in Vancouver so expensive. Developers are heading to the island especially Victoria but Nanaimo also.

Quote:
Two 20-storey condos, referred to as Georgiaview Towers, have been envisioned for a 1.27-hectare patch of vacant land on 6340 McRobb Ave.

A video posted on www.georgiaviewtowers.com shows renderings of two high-rise condominiums on the property. The video also shows the spectacular views that would be provided to tenants, should the towers be built.
