Since we're on the topic of McDonalds, yesterday a permit was issued for one to take up the ground floor of their new HQ. Not highrise news, but it felt pertinent enough to mention

^ the whole ground floor? Isn't that quite a large building?

With any luck they'll make it a new flagship, paving the way to eventually get rid of the Hard Rock McDonald's.

I figured there was also an element of which materials pass along vibrations most efficiently (the more efficient, the worse of an insulator). Sort of like how heat insulation relies on materials that are poor conductors of heat. Neither of those things necessarily point to the densest materials.

Sorry. That place is miserable. They're everywhere here.

I would assume it would only be for a small portion of the ground floor. My guess would be on a corner, perhaps on Randolph. It is Restaurant Row after all, and I suppose for all intents and purposes... McDonald's is a "restaurant", right? lol

Yup, it's going to be on the Randolph side. I wonder if this McDonald's will be held to a much higher standard in order to fit into the "Restaurant Row" brand.

Yeah, the west sidewalk is already decent from Grand up to Chicago. South of Grand, there are a lot of older buildings on the west side of State. Cantina Laredo is the only recent one, but it seems they weren't required to follow the setback. If they ever do want to change the cross-section, it'll be expensive to move all the subway vents.

Also, seems to be a trend with arcades on the east side of State. I always assumed this was a directive from DPD. Loyola did this at their business school, Grand Plaza, Hilton Garden Inn, Palomar, etc.

I'm surprised at how quickly The Marlowe grew. They topped out back in early October when they only got their tower crane in early June. Now they're almost done with covering the building in glass, and plan to open in early 2018. If only more high-rises took about 9 months to be built, we could cover much of Chicago in 12-15 story buildings

How to dump a load of gravel in the middle of a site

Not a pump truck - a conveyor belt truck

But there is always the dude on the receiving end.
