wow. so it may actually happen...i've always dreamt of the day when new highrise construction resumed right on forest park, on either end. it's the most "big city" part of st. louis in my opinion.

Oh I think it's definitely happening.

excerpt from the WestEnd Word

The One-Hundred

Due to be completed in 2019 is the One-Hundred, a residential tower on the northeast corner of Kingshighway and West Pine boulevards. The building has a bold, mostly glass design. Its windows are angled to make the spaces feel larger than they are and to permit more natural light in the rooms. The downside is that only a fourth of the units will have balconies due to the angled glass.

Projected to have approximately 322 apartments on 38 floors and to stand 400 feet tall, the One-Hundred will be 90 feet taller than the nearby Chase Park Plaza and the city's tallest residential building. A 335-vehicle parking garage is also planned. The project is projected to cost $130 million. Construction is underway and is expected to finish in mid-2019.

St. Louis Business Journal

A proposed $9-million, low-rise apartment building for The Grove/Manchester strip.

Plans are in the works for a new hotel, apartment building and bank in the Grove neighborhood in the city of St. Louis.

The development group for the hotel, which includes Bryan Aston, Stan McCurdy andJeff McCurdy, has detailed a $12.8 million project for the 900 block of South Taylor Avenue south of Highway 40, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The hotel would have 107 rooms and provide accommodations for those spending time at the nearby BJC HealthCare complex, according to the Post-Dispatch.

The developer hopes to begin construction in May and open the hotel in July 2015.

Another developer, led by Amy and Amrit Gill, is looking to build a five-story apartment building in the 4400 block of Manchester Avenue across the street from the Urban Chestnut brewery, which is under construction.

That development would include 55 apartments over ground-floor space for a restaurant and offices of Restoration St. Louis, according to the Post-Dispatch. Construction could begin in March, and residents could move in by January 2015.

Byrd & Barrel Plans Expansion with Containerized Outdoor Seating

https://nextstl.com/2017/12/byrd-bar...tdoor-seating/

Byrd & Barrel, the popular fried chicken restaurant located just South of Cherokee Street in Marine Villa is expanding. They’re planning to add an additional 60 seats using three modified 8’x20′ ISO shipping containers repurposed into an outdoor shade structure with two levels. Renderings from V Three Studios show an elevated deck with fabric a canopy on the second level overlooking Jefferson. The structure will initially not have climate control although Byrd & Barrel owner Bob Brazel says that may be added in the future. A conditional use hearing is scheduled for Thursday, January 4th. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2018.

Chemical Building Owners Now Thinking Big

https://nextstl.com/2018/01/chemical...-thinking-big/

Quote:
The owners of the historic Chemical Building downtown appear to have shifted gears away from micro-apartments to larger residential units. In earlier discussions last September, they had discussed squeezing as many as 700 of the tiny homes into the 16 story, 177,000 square foot structure. Micro-apartments are under 500 square feet and often only 200 square feet. The developer filed a $23,000,000 application for a building permit yesterday to rezone the site for 207 apparently larger units.

$44 Million Lab Redevelopment for Cortex Printing Plant

https://nextstl.com/2018/01/44-milli...rinting-plant/

Quote:
The Cortex Innovation Community plans a $44 million multi-tenant renovation of the historic printing plant most recently known as the Crescent Building at 4340-50 Duncan Avenue. With a recommendation from the St. Louis Development Corporation, the City’s Tax Increment Financing Commission is expected to approve a $5 million TIF for the project at its meeting today.

Plans call for 96,000 square feet of affordable laboratory, shared lab, and creative office space. Users will include the district’s graduating incubator and accelerator tenants. The vacant concrete and brick structure is adjacent to the modern DuPont building on the block west of Cortex Commons.

The three-story St. Louis Post-Dispatch Rotogravure printing plant was built in 1930 for $300,000. A four-story lift tower rises at the northeast corner of the building. Double height windows bring light into the vast second floor. Clay tile trims the edge of the roof.

Lofts planned for the Steelcote Paint Company Building in Midtown. This is a very cool one in my book. Super Industrial area today, but this could change all of that.

Picture from Zillow showing the Central West End and the location of the 100 tower in relation to Forest Park. From this direction, One Hundred will rise about 80' taller than the Chase Park Plaza which is the tallest building to the left of the photo. One Hundred will be two blocks to the right of the Chase Park Plaza.

Forest Park is the second largest urban park in the country behind New York's Central Park.
