Sears Call Centre In Saint John & Edmundston More And Likely To Close Aswell

With Sears Canada Seeking Full Liquidation Of The Remaining Of Their Assets And Stores, More And Likely The Call Centre Here In Saint John And The One In Edmundston Will Also Close. It's Sad For The Over 12,000 Employees Now Losing Their Jobs. In My Opinion, Sears Failed To Keep Up With The Changing Retail Landscape. And It's A Shame That One The Most Iconic Retailers Here In Canada Failed & Is Completely Going Out Of Business Here In Canada.

Here's A Few Articles

East Point to get new business

I noticed today, at the location of the now moved Celebration store, net go Goji's, there is a new business getting ready to open. It's an Expedia Cruise Ship Center.

CannabisNB SJ Locations:

Loblaw Properties Ltd. – 168 Rothesay Ave. (Superstore complex)
Plazacorp Property Holdings – 944 Fairville Blvd. (the strip mall with Mary Brown’s and Starbucks)

A further tender has been offered for a Rothesay/Quispamsis location.

I'm guessing there'll be a tender for one once the province expands over 20 locations. I can understand why GNB would want to avoid Uptown for its inaugural run of stores.

Some McAllister Place news.

It looks like once Eastlink, Roots, and Taco Bell and Marshalls set up shop in McAllister this year that will only leave 4 vacancies at the property. (Not including Sears) Quite a 180 degree shift compared to a year ago when some people wrote off this mall as dying.

On the topic of Sears... There was a 2.6 million dollar building permit submitted to the city a couple weeks ago for the mall listed as "Renovation and Expansion" so it looks like they have plans for that section already.

The List of new stores just in the past year and a half is really quite staggering.

Party City
H&M
Dollarama
Goodlife Fitness
Marshalls
Eastlink
Roots
Michael Hill
Taco Bell
La Vie en Rose
Laura Secord
Tip Top Tailors/ George Richards

All in all, it looks like Primaris is doing a pretty decent job with the property.

A couple tidbits for East Point Shopping.

Cleve's opened a few months back, Expedia Cruise Ship Centres is now open and Pizza Studio should be open later this year.

And a random tidbit - it looks like construction is well underway for the second Thai Express in the city which will be located in the former Menchies in Westmorland Plaza.

You had me at "Pizza Studio".

Also... Taco Bell in McAllister Place? Is it going in the food court? Does this mean they'll be moving out of the colocation with KFC in the plaza?

Heres he menu for Pizza Studio: https://www.pizzastudio.com/menu.html

Yes, it would be in the Food Court. No, the location in Westmorland Plaza would remain.

Kind of odd for the only 2 locations of Taco Bell in SJ to be so ridiculously close together, but I won't complain about any new addition to fill one of the vacant spots in the food court.

Sorry for the lateness on this reply, but I like the fact that McAllister Place is aggressively keeping up with retail trends....this year being their 40th anniversary as McAllister Place should be treated as a big year for traffic there even if the former Sears space is not used until next year.

It's why McAllister Place has been the linchpin of the McAllister Regional Retail Centre since 1989 as well...not resting on it's laurels, welcoming any store, and not fearing change, even if change does take some time.

And that whole part of the city is far richer for that. So I toast that retail centre for staying relevant, and hope that The Brick, a ticket redemption arcade(maybe bowling centre too(10-pin)), and a new grocery store will occupy the former Sears space.

=)

It's Taco BOWL and it's already open, not Taco BELL.

Anyone know what is taking place with the old Staples store on the west side? Noticed some renos taking place. Also noticed the co-op basics building out towards Grand Bay is no longer for sale...
