Liberty 1&2 for me.

When you take that turn on the Schuylkill Exp. and see the city for the first time (if you are lucky enough to survive the Schuylkill), those 2 buildings tell you right away that you are in Philly.

Love that moment....

One Liberty, it's just everything a skyscraper should be in my view. I haven't seen anything on paper that's coming down the pike that will eclipse it either, it's just magnificent

I'd say skyscrapers built would be:
1. Liberty Place 2. City Hall 3. FMC 4. Comcast Tech

Proposed Skyscrapers:
1. Center City Tower which basically looks a bit like Comcast Tech 2. American Commerce Center 3. The old

blech, too derivative of the chrysler building. and 2 lib is derivative of 1 lib.
Helmut Jahn really fixated on the chrysler building in the 1970s and 80s, designed a few buildings like that.

Definitely great during the day too but tough for me to put ahead of 1 Liberty there.

Bah.

BAT.
Mellon.
Drake if you could count it as a skyscraper (it is sub-40 floors so I guess not).

1Lib is classic and well proportioned. But it doesn't talk to me.

Mine is actually 3 Logan Square. One Liberty Place is a masterpiece, no doubt, PNB and PSFS are classics, the Alexander is the best recent skyscraper, but 3 Logan is my personal favorite. If City Hall counts, it's also definitely #1 with 3 Logan second.

Today I went to the Terracotta Warriors exhibit at the Franklin Institute, which has some really great views of this building. I remember when I first came to the Franklin, I was blown away by the skyscrapers nearby. I really love the Franklin Institute. The Terracotta Warriors exhibit was one of their best yet, I must add.

the Drake is totally a skyscraper, there is no rule that cuts the definition off at 40 floors.

Those are louvers. They are for ventilation, heat rejection, light, and air. Most or all buildings have them. Skyscrapers usually have mechanical floors that implement them. But they are not always as noticeable as these.

There must be substantial mechanical rooms at each of those locations. Likely one for the hotel and one for the office building. You need large amounts of fresh air for the HVAC systems of buildings like these and this is where you pull it in before it's mixed with return air, conditioned and distributed throughout the building. You also need fresh air for combustion to heat the building.

This is a picture of the first large mechanical floor back in December 2016. I wish I had taken more but the scale of it was crazy - plumbing, heating, and cooling - it was like being in the bowels of a large naval vessel.
