Saint John Harbour, 1870. Before the Great Fire of 1877. Taken from the roof of (old) Trinity Church. Nearly every structure in these photos was destroyed in the fire.

Everytime I see vintage TO pictures I'm always stunned at just how 'big' and imposing the city looked back then. I certainly don't get that feeling when I see Montreal pictures.

A view of Dartmouth Cove in the 1950's. Downtown Dartmouth is off to the left. The small river that runs into the cove is the start of the Shubenacadie Canal that connects to the Bay of Fundy.
