1954 (most decrepit portions of slum area cleared, visible in the green spaces almost dead centre):

Everytime I see vintage TO pictures I'm always stunned at just how 'big' and imposing the city looked back then. I certainly don't get that feeling when I see Montreal pictures.

A view of Dartmouth Cove in the 1950's. Downtown Dartmouth is off to the left. The small river that runs into the cove is the start of the Shubenacadie Canal that connects to the Bay of Fundy.
