I always thought the Children's buildings never won anyone over. But I always thought they were really interesting.

Little building they're keeping is the least interesting of the bunch.

It's an architectural tragedy.....that really sucks. What do they propose for these lands? (Assuming a rebuilt hospital)

The Children's has already moved to a new building in NDG a couple years ago.

The land is being re-developed with a cluster of towers ranging from 20 to 32 floors in height.

Yikes....that's pretty bad. The buildings aren't awful, their just mediocre (podium and office tower on right is bad) and are a terrible replacement of those 50's towers.

But, what do you do with an obsolete hospital building that makes financial sense?

I think the new complex/towers look much better than the old 1950s building.

It would be very costly to make those towers viable for use as offices or residential.....but they could renovate those towers into either use, sell it either condos or have one tower as offices. This would be a very lengthy process of retrofitting those buildings, but it would be an interesting way of maintaining an existing building for a new use. They could fix up the street level too in some areas and add retail units. (This is rather unrealistic in some ways, but a company like Oxford or CF could do this if they were interested......but it's a pipe dream)

The tallest part of the Old Children's hospital is about to come down. Should be within the hour. It can be watched NOW live on CTV:

I believe the current Empire Landmark Hotel demolition in Vancouver will be the second tallest building to ever be demo'd in Canada (smokestacks not included).

It's kind of sad to watch. I've always like that building, I even made a model based on it in BlockCAD 12 years ago:

I lost all those files in a computer crash but I made about 70 buildings for a 3D city.

Sucks to see this monster go...especially to be replaced by a complete mess.

/\ I love revolving restaurants. Sad to see that building go.

Inner Harbour Custom House building in Victoria is nearly torn down now. The original wing on the left (Federal Govt building) is being retained (built between 1894 and 1898) while the addition on the right completed in 1952 is being destroyed and replaced with high end condos selling between 850,000 and 11 million. It will have a great view of the Parliament buildings and the harbour.

This Empire Landmark demolition is just ridiculous. Insane waste of resources.

The Children's was a special structure, a fragment of Midwestern gigantism and a heavy western anchor for downtown.

The new thing is just more airy Cancon condo-boom ephemera.
