the 747 was quite a pleasant experience and a great improvement over my first two commercial flights in the 1950s - on a Lockheed Constellation and a DC-3.

If we get a 747 with the updated interior than I would love to fly on it, for the sake of those that are paying the big dough to fly AUS-LHR, the 787 and 773 are much better aircraft comfort wise.

It is hard to beat the beauty and history of the 747 though, too bad they are retiring in the next few years, I wish more people bought the 747-800.

Got to ride a DC-3 at EAA a couple years back and would hope the 747 would be more comfortable!

I'll be honest, the BA plane change has scared me away from using them this year.

I'm now connecting in DTW to get to AMS for my annual Europe work excursion. I didn't really need to be in London, but it was nice having a direct flight and a few days bookending work to relax in London... but I honestly would rather fly on the new Delta premium select connecting than the old girl.

I know the history of the plane, but I dont want to sit in it for half a day.

If they did some refurbishment it wouldn’t be bad, but it’s kind of sad and old. The 773 for winter is brand-new though.

Am I the only one who still books flights based on cheapness?

Yes.

These days it involves too much math. What does cheap mean? Do I need extra legroom (yes) and do I plan to check a bag? If so, I can spend up to $100 more on a ticket on airline A because i get those things for fee from them, and still have the final cost be cheaper than airline B where I’d have to pay extra.

If that’s not something I need, then it’s a different thought process.

My order of operation is

1) Delta
2) Direct
3) Premium Economy (especially international)
4) Sanity check that none of my preferences are like 40% more expensive than the cheapest flight

Say it isn’t so! Hopefully you didn’t get busted.

Thanks for all your input. Cheers.

I'm sorry to hear that. For morons like me who don't know anything about the airport or airplanes at all, your info is always appreciated and of high value.

I hope you'll reconsider after a little time away . . .

Aw. You’re one of the few who has anything qualitative to say.

The rest of us are just gabbing about which planes have the most comfy seats and speculating baselessly about which airline will finally open the lucrative Vladivostok route.

If this is the case, please leave and feel free to piss others off on a.net. Austin1971 is the King and is a vital source on all things ABIA.

Yep. I haven't flown in awhile, but when I even think about planning a trip I start looking at cheapest flights.
