Both projects are fantastic, and so good to see the infill there. I find it hilarious when residents (or Orlikow) say those larger buildings don't "fit" on the street corners, yet ignore the fact there's dozens of 40+ year old corner lot apartment buildings in Crescentwood area.

McMillan Heights looks nice – true "townhome" style, which we don't see a lot here.

Orlikow is such a loser. Rejects every project that adds density to the neighbourhood.

He's the gold standard of NIMBY. Talks a big game about how great and important infill is, but soon as one person in his riding is upset – he's against it.

Looks like a lot of retail ebbs and flows in OV.
  • 'Be-you-tee factory' at 100 Osborne (River Block/'Courtyard') seems to be gone, which isn't necessarily a big deal for the street, since they had covered over their streetfront windows with a giant image of a pair of lips...
  • Shout (101 Osborne) has closed, but its sister shop Hush is still open.Looks like they're doing some interior renos to the unit, so I wonder if it's been rented out (or whether maybe their bridal business is being moved upstairs..?)
  • Tokyo Smoke has 'rolling up soon' signage in its storefront in the plaza at Osborne/Stradbrook. Looks like they're taking two thirds of the old Jekyl & Hydes space
  • Construction underway for Tweed (former TD)
  • Construction underway (but seemingly very slowly) for Little Pizza Heaven's move/expansion into the former tanning salon and Smitten spaces.
  • Signage up for Poutine King at the former Billabong/After Dark space. Apparently it's going to be open until 4am 7 days a week, and will have entertainment on weekends? Seems like a giant space for a poutine joint, and I can't imagine who's going to spend an evening there. Seems like a weird business plan for a pretty big space. Even Smokes in the Exchange is a tiny little space.

As expected from the discussions here, Tweed's windows (former TD) are completely frosted glass, top to bottom. Looked super nice inside but there's zero interaction with the street. Might as well have remained vacant for what it contributes to the streetscape.

  • Little Pizza Heaven is in its new location -- lots bigger and much nicer looking.
  • Crews in working at the old Second Cup location
  • Gong Cha now open
  • Old Luxe&Charm location now has random farmhouse antique-type knick knacks in the window but the door is still papered over and it's not clear what's going in
  • Poutine King is now open
  • Tokyo Smoke looks like its getting pretty close... lots of activity

The Tokyo Smoke opened yesterday.

Also, Little Sister Coffee Maker opened their second location yesterday, in South Osborne.

I hate that Winnipeg's shittiest food truck has now taken the form of a prominent lounge... yikes.

Also if I was the landlord of that building and just spent a huge heap of money renovating it and making it look fantastic, no way I would allow all those hideous decals everywhere. Gross.

Well, much better than before. I like what they did with the decorative steel.

In other news the L shaped strip mall at Stradbrook is looking really nice. Unfortunate there's still a big parking lot out front, but the building is looking good. I like that they kept all the main signage uniform, then the tenants get to have nice branded pendant signs.
