Without me having any evidence whatsoever(!), I'll bet the RC developers did the sniff test on this property and passed.

as much as I love the building on the corner - I honestly think they should just demolish all 3 buildings and have the RC just develop the entire block

Huh?

Who is going to "have" RC do anything?

Multiple alarm fire in downtown Hamilton building

By Nicole O’Reilly Spectator Reporter Wed., May 13, 2020

The Hamilton Fire Department is at a multiple alarm fire in a downtown building.

Emergency services were called to the fire at 21 John St. S., near Main Street East, around 11:41 a.m. Wednesday.

Hamilton police said the call came in as a fire, with lots of smoke, at an abandoned building behind the Residences of Royal Connaught.

There is a strong smell of smoke in the area.

More to come.

I'm surprised there was enough things for the fire to burn in the first place. Last time I was in that building, it was stripped right down to the rafters and brick walls. Don't think it makes much difference for the future of the building though, it was left roofless already anyway.
