Ceasars

Does anyone know if they're going to change those two godawful tops on the roof of the casino? I feel like they'd have to because it is not in line with the aesthetic now

thats an expensive copper roof , Caesars as a whole having a brutal 1st quarter because Tom Reeg is a piece of shit and being way over budget as this project is already with inflation from the time they worked it up till starting...I think they are going to go with the sand it and paint like the rendering show lol

Not going to lie, I’m going to miss the old Harrah’s; but the building itself had become outdated and kinda long in the tooth. This renovation will only add to the Riverfront and enhance the city’s skyline.

there is a lot I do miss about Harrahs going away here but the changes they have made are a huge improvement and I do love Caesars Palace so its a nice upgrade, especially when they get NOBU restaurant open. theres a few things I dont like and I discussed them with the GM but he said only one might happen but some of the stuff has to come from higher ups

friend was doing insulation work recently and said the roof is still leaking in some spots, so hopefully the get them addressed before opening the 2nd floor

Yikes - that’s not good; hopefully they can fix it .Also if they refuse to tear down Plaza Tower, they may have to wrap it in skin or something for the Super Bowl.

Oh I'm not talking about the actual roof, I know that copper's expensive lol. I mean those two, Idk what to even call them, I don't want to say spires. They have the tacky light up globes and the flagpoles on top.

I really hope the city has plans to repave Canal St. and repair the sidewalks before the Super Bowl. I see they are starting work on Poydras. It is embarrasing driving down Canal and Poydras with out of towners and see potholes, trash and grafitti. The city should have some type of aggressive initiative to beautify and cleanup all of downtown especially Canal St. year round. It's one of the first impressions outside of the airport and it looks terrible. It's gonna be hard to attract companies to open storefronts in its current state. And the DDD is subpar in my opinion. I travel to Chicago 3-4 times a year and I wish Canal St. could resemble Michigan Ave. in some respects. It should have storefronts like Apple, Crate & Barrel, Nike, Zara up and down the street. It has sooo much potential! Sorry for the rant.

I'm not sure Canal St will ever get to that point. There's just too much retail space in NOLA for not enough wealth.

Transportation is a factor too, the rich locals who would shop on Canal St don't want to drive down, deal with traffic, park far away etc. Canal Place is doing OK because they have the on-site parking garage, but street side retail doesn't have that advantage. Michigan Ave in Chicago has plenty of parking but also great transit access to rail and bus lines, and lots of rich people who live in highrises within a few blocks of Michigan.

I hate the tacky t-shirt shops and Willies Chickens on Canal too, but I think the right move is continuing to push re-use of the upper floors, for apartments/hotels/airbnb, and ground floor for restaurants or local/independent retail. Big national retail chains will never be successful there, every time they try it they end up closing.

I Havent seen anything yet on the extent of the work they are doing other than a few stories on fixing poydras streets and sidewalk...at the least a top layer strip and fresh repave would be fantastic but usually they just spot repair sections that they have neglected for years and years

Agreed, national retail chains are closing in downtowns all around the country because there just isn't demand for it. Those with the wealth would rather go to a mall in the suburbs with parking lots. Even Canal Place and the Riverwalk have trouble keeping tenants. I do think food chains, as much as I dislike them, could have more success on Canal (like Fogo de Chao).

Audubon riverfront project to begin this summer as cost estimates nearly double

"Construction is scheduled to begin late this summer on the first phase of a project to turn two old wharves on the edge of the French Quarter into a public park with riverfront access, long a dream of city leaders...Construction is expected to take at least two years, which means the new section of riverfront won’t be completed in time for New Orleans to play host to Super Bowl LIX next February...The first phase of the project will include the redevelopment of the Gov. Nicholls Street wharf and construction of the multi-use path along both wharves. The Esplanade Avenue wharf will be redeveloped in the second phase."

This is gonna be a game changer for the riverfront as a whole. Knowing Audubon’s track record- they’re gonna go all in on this project.

After years of false starts, New Orleans Convention Center has a new plan for a major

"After several failed attempts to build a new hotel at the upriver end of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the building's oversight board is expected to vote on a new proposal that could finally make the project a reality. The board on Wednesday will consider a formal, non-binding agreement with Omni Hotel and Resorts that would effectively begin the process of building the hotel, according to the public meeting notice ahead of board's monthly meeting. They are also expected to vote on a resolution related to a purchase of the eight-acre site where the proposed hotel and adjacent parking garage will be built."

I understand retail in general has been taking a huge hit and companies are not opening as many new stores. But it is no excuse for all the t-shirts shops lining Canal St. Smaller cities with less tourist have more retail variety downtown than us. Like one of you mentioned I would be satisfied with a few chain restaurants. Tourist walk Canal St. with money to burn. Just make it more eye appealing atleast.

What high end retailers could Canal St attract ? Seems Canal St was specifically designated for shopping and retail akin to Times Square or Beale St yet can’t keep the high end retailers. Is it because of the environment or business climate of the city ?

The Convention Center's oversight board okayed a new proposal with Omni on Wednesday. However, the proposed hotel would not be built on the preferred upriver site in the River District. The board also gave assent to convention center management to buy for about $20 million the block that currently is occupied by The Sugar Mill event space and an adjacent parking lot. That land, bordered by Andrew Higgins Boulevard, South Peters Street, John Churchill Chase Street, and Convention Center Boulevard, would be the site of the hotel and related parking space.

I don't hate the location and think that area is a dead zone that would benefit from a large new hotel. This would also be centrally located for the convention center's various halls and frankly a better location than the now empty river district lots. However, its not a good sign for the River District which would have benefitted greatly from this project.
