The Rebecca Street bus terminal opened in 1955. The terminal was owned by Gray Coach Lines, with some funding from Canada Coach Lines. In stayed in operation until 1996 when Hamilton GO Centre opened a new terminal.

Found these photos via Metrolinx from 1975. Enjoy.

It was a dump then, and it's literally a dump now.

Worse than a dump. Thank God that thing got demolished. Brighter days ahead for this neighbourhood.

To me, it was before (even after the park went in). At least there's some hope now.

True, true..

I really hope something absolutely amazing goes into that giant parking lot block behind the hydro building.. with all the big buildings going up around it it deserves to have something amazing there, not some stupid half concrete park like this one.

Apparently, according to Forge and Foster, this property sale just closed on March 17.

I was sold by Sonoma Homes and bought by Rosehaven Homes for $9,000,000. Works out to $11,538,462. per acre.

Hopefully construction starts soon!

Does this increase the likelihood of it being built? (Or at least something built here)

This was prophetic. (from Feb 24, 2019)

And does the sale mean we may see yet another design before shovels are in the ground?

The latest renderings we have seen are the Rosehaven renderings, so no new design or anything.

This sale is a closing of a conditional deal which was reached a long while ago. Many development land sales are conditional on receiving a certain amount of development approvals.

Notably, Core Urban's purchase of the parking lot on James S. which they started construction on this week also closed this week. That one was likely conditional on receiving building permit for the project, for example.

Here, it was likely conditional on SPA approval or something similar. There is no building permit here yet, so nothing immediate coming in terms of construction, but I expect it will come soon as they have now closed on the property.

So which one is the correct version then, of the last two images?

Personally I prefer the one with the white "grid" (though I'd hope that odd rectangle of glass halfway up is removed). The other one that went to the DRP is very bland.

Now that Rosehaven is in possession, for sure it will happen. Their other development (KIWI) will finish up this year. Neat to see at least Rosehaven and Emblem realizing the upside of the city and capturing momentum, adding to the cityscape. Not saying these are world beater designs, but at least something additive. Alongside UrbanCore, there's at least some core group adding relative quality to the core.

The bottom image is the latest we have seen, I believe.

Rosehavens projects so far seem decent, if not incredible. Certainly better than Vrancor and Coletaras. I'm also interested to see how Cobalt turns out, as Liuna is spending a ton of money downtown right now. Using G+C for their architect unfortunately is not a great sign..

We have to remember that Hamilton is a low cost market (though it may not seem that way some times..), which means developers only have so much money to do something creative. Prices are going up quick though, as we saw with Lamb selling his building for over $1,000/ft.. so there is becoming more and more wiggle room in the budget to do attractive buildings.

I've been making this point for a while, thank you! There's a reason why pretty much every new build in Toronto is top class. They have the money to do it because the units sell for top dollar.

We're getting there though here in Hamilton.
