As an aside, but one that deals with much of the underlying drama, here's a column in the Sun calling on Ottawa to grow up.

As Rod Serling would say, "Submitted for your approval...or at least your analysis":

Moronic article. Basically says, "I went to Chicago. It was cool. It has tall buildings. Ottawa needs tall buildings to be cool. If you hate tall buildings, you hate Ottawa."
There's no real insight. Chicago is a fascinating city with great architecture. Have someone with some architectural expertise write an article and I'll read it. This one comes off as just pandering to the Suns advertisers.

Out of curiosity, who do you think the Sun's advertisers are? I'm not seeing a lot of Claridge ads in that issue. Used cars, new cars, in-ground pools, and cheap eats is what I see.

Note: I'm not defensing the tone or quality of the article, just playing devil's advocate.

I'm not liking the changes they made with the balconies and podium. These renderings looked better.

What happened to the original curvilinear pattern? I must say if I were to spend a s### load of money on a condo I would want a balcony. Especially when you are that close to Dow's Lake. Maybe the new renders don't suit some people but a balcony for most people is a must. The new renders have this. The ones favoured by the last post don't. It's quite simple really.

Looks a bit out of proportion without the extra 5 floors.

Most of the height was cut from the podium (which was ridiculously out of proportion before) not the tower, so maybe it's just the different perspective of the new renders that's making you think that?

It just seems a bit stumpy compared to the original plan. Perhaps it is the perspective that has me going there.

anyone know what's in that new podium? didn't they drop it five stories by putting the garage underground because the residents weren't happy with the big podium? the new one looks even more imposing somehow...

Looking forward to that once proposed museum/parking garage (drive through museum)... "if you buy fries with that ravioli combo we'll throw in this free postcard of Leonardo's Mona Lisa".

They are SERIOUSLY saying they are building an Italian heritage museum still are they....that's the kind of thing developers say when they propose and drop the second it's approved...

Still looks pretty decent overall, and looks like it will still be fairly tall too. It`s a lot better than nothing...

Agreed. This site and the vacant lot on the other side of Preston @ Carling are terrible. Will be cool to finally see a nice 'entrance' to Little Italy rather than just that tacky sign. Every time I see it I think of that 'marble columns' skit on SNL.

See, my problem with this project is that a reduction in a few storeys resulted in a total design change. The "waviness" was pretty unique, but we've lost that now for no truly justifiable reason. It's rather ridiculous.

Personally I would love to see the wavy version of this building either downtown or much closer to it. Need some more buildings with character in the downtown core.

It's still a nice contrast compared to the 90's looking buildings that Xerox and Adobe are in up the street...
