I cannot find an official number online, maybe we'll get a fun PR piece updating the numbers in 2016. There have been a bevy of projects that have now opened that were in construction or being drawn back in 2010 so 10K is a safe bit. There is also a group of several hundred units opening in 2016 that have been under construction / development for the past 2-3 years. FYI - 10,000 was the key number the experts like ULI stated was key to get downtown to be a true neighborhood that would sustain its own retail. Well..... there is a number of retail outlets opening in the next few years including the very upscale 4510 across from the original Neiman Marcus.
Yes this is about right. I don't know the last time these links where updated but you can find a map where you can look at each neighborhood in the Dallas core to get an idea of where it is and where its going in regards to population.

This is the spreadsheet of just the CBD for example.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...=2&pli=1#gid=0
Assuming a 7% vacancy rate, the current population can be estimated to be 9,014. When current units under construction are complete it will be about 11,833. Looking at all downtown plus surrounding neighborhoods (Victory, Uptown, etc), the population is estimated at 39,884 and projected to be 48,601 when current projects are complete.

Demo starting on Downtown Dallas’ Brewery building in West End

Quote:
Demolition has started on a more than century old downtown Dallas building that in the 1980s housed a legendary nightclub.
Quote:
Provident has started interior demo of the building with plans to develop the property located next door to Victory Park.

“We anticipate the demolition of the building to still be a couple of months or more out,” said Provident CEO Leon Backes. “We are planning an apartment project on the site.”

Developers woo office project for West Dallas’ Trinity Groves complex

Quote:
The owners of the popular Trinity Groves restaurant complex – West Dallas Investments L.P. – are seeking a developer or investors to build a high-rise office building at the western end of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.

The 3.1-acre first class office project would be built next door to the Trinity Groves complex and across the street from where developer Columbus Realty just broke ground on an apartment community.

Construction on the office project would start next year at Singleton Boulevard and Gulden Lane, according to marketing material for the building.

The additional development is great for that area, but I sure wish it was more pedestrian friendly and better integrated into the surrounding area.

They were updated just before Christmas. Most of the numbers should be pretty accurate (hopefully, museum tower sells at a better pace this year and I can go ahead and bump that vacancy number to 6%)

Trammell Crow Residential working on Uptown high-rise

Quote:
Trammell Crow Residential is soon to take the plunge in the Uptown high-rise apartment market.

The Dallas-based developer is working on plans for an apartment tower at Carlisle and Vine streets near Turtle Creek and the Katy Trail, according to plans filed with the City of Dallas.

Crow Residential – one of the busiest apartment builders in North Texas – plans to build a 15-story tower on the Carlisle site, said senior managing director Steve Bancroft.

I thought they were assembling that property there on Carlisle for a new building. 15 stories doesn't seem to meet the full potential of that site, but it's better than lower density.

Is this the one your talking about? (In parking lot across from the Trammel Crow Center but developed by JP Morgan) http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/bl...jacent-to.html
It should get started 1Q 2016. End of 2015 was a stretch goal.

That project is called 2000 Ross. Can be a little confusing... Its across from the Trammel Crow Center but is being developed by Stream Realty Partners. That includes 2,000 parking spaces that will allow for more parking at the Trammel Crow Center. It will also include 350 apartments / 227 hotel rooms. From what they have posted they plan on opening the first components in the first half of 2017, so we should see happening on that project sometime soon.

Thanks, guys. That's the one. Based on the components, I can only assume it's going to be fairly massive.

This will be a nice looking project. Not sure how it will turn out at ground level. The modern office buildings these days all have motor courts.

I see what you mean. It looks like the part that faces Klyde Warren Park doesn't have a ton of street interaction, but the side streets look like they have some potential.

This is mostly due to the fact that most of the buildings next to the park came before it was even planned. Now that the park has turned into such a huge asset many buildings now have plans to redo their bottom floors to better connect with the park. There is one that will be redeveloped for restaurants and I know the DMA wanted better connection to it as well. Newer buildings like Trammel Crow's are taking the park into consideration of course from the drawing boards. I'm sure Perot and other developers will as well in the future.

Exclusive: Cityplace, Forest City to develop new West Village hotel and apartment tower

Quote:
The group plans to build a nine-story, 150-room hotel with a connected 24-story, 389-unit residential tower that would sit on one of the last remaining tracts between Cityplace Boulevard West and Blackburn Street in the West Village on 2.6 acres.

The project — much like the 3700M tower — would also include about 23,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space that would extend West Village's walkable retail reign eastward.

A first look at JP Morgan Chase's new regional campus at Plano's Legacy West
Candace Carlisle
January 8, 2016

Quote:
With Toyota North America's $350 million, 2.1 million-square-foot corporate campus underway and Liberty Mutual Insurance readying its $325 million, 1 million-square-foot regional hub for vertical construction, it would appear J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.'s new regional hub could pencil out to more than $200 million of real and business personal property.
Quote:
The 800,000 square feet of office space is expected to be spread out throughout a number of buildings. In an early rendering of the campus, J.P. Morgan Chase appears to have four mid-rise office buildings (attached).
Quote:
Construction on the campus is slated to begin this year. The first J.P. Morgan Chase employees could move into the new campus starting in the second half of 2017.
