Cosmos is NASL, not MLS, so that part of the early reporting was wrong.

Yeah, soccer is huge among immigrants here, and it's growing quite fast among native-born Canadians as well. Those are fairly cheap ticket prices, too.

I personally know of hundreds of people in the soccer community who are super excited and will be going to this. Can't wait.

Here's some interesting facts for you, back in it's hey day (70's - 80's), some of the world's soccer legends played for the NY Cosmos, Pele (Brazilian) and Franz Bechenbauer (German).

As for Valencia, they are in La Liga, the best professional league in Spain, and best in the world many would argue. While not nearly as big as Barca or Madrid teams Valencia is fairly well known. Probably the biggest name on their roster is Nani, a starting midfielder for the Portuguese national team who recently won the European Cup. They play in this stadium:

I think too that this is a bit of a unique event for Saskatchewan. Not a concert or NHL pre-season, curling or world junior tournament which have all be hosted multiple times before. Professional soccer is a new event so will draw some curious event goers I would think. And while some people find the sport boring, the live event is good in the sense that the play is continuous, there are no TV timeouts, or coaching timeouts so there is more flow. As opposed to football that has way too many play stoppages in my opinion.

This will be a great event even if it's not one of the top teams playing. Good to showcase a sport that is popular around the world.

The one thing that will be missing is the atmosphere of a home crowd. Having been to 3 games in Europe (Munich -2, Rome-1) there is nothing like being part part of that experience. But this will still be great.

(Also i wish it was Bayern Munich playing in Regina haha)

I didn't realize there were other Bayern fans in the city.

Looking at the map on Ticketmaster, they have only opened the lower bowl, at least for the pre-sale. It looks like a few thousand tics have been sold so far on the pre-sale.

The greyed-out seats on the presale map don't necessarily mean they're spoken for. Not sure why, but when I just let the system select seats for me, it selected 3 seats right in the middle of the greyed out (unavailable) area.

Purchase went through, so it wasn't a glitch or something like that.

We're everywhere. I'd pay at least double to watch Bayern play in Regina.

For those who still think the prevailing winds in Regina are NW, here is the actual data for the last 3 mos. SE clearly dominant. It will be interesting to see how the stadium performs in SE winds.

Did I hear that the shutters (I don't know the technical name - between the upper deck seat & the spectator roof) could be opened & closed to compensate for winds?

Summer/fall might be different than late winter/spring, however.

And if I remember correctly, it somewhat reverses, but I don't recall how to properly find the sources for that information.

Purely anecdotal but I bike to work pretty much every day to work. I live in NW Regina and I can count on my hand how many times I've had the wind at my back. For me its been SE wind in the am and NW wind in the PM.
I think most of our games are in the evening and the wind usually dies down by then as well.

Got another brief tour of the stadium last night. Finishing touches coming along very nicely.

Also, the perimeter construction fence is now gone so you can now walk around the whole exterior of the stadium.
