A big thanks to Hans Gruber. I hope you will enjoy the pictures... (As I have mentioned in my first post, the pictures were taken in mid July 08).

new downtown bellevue aerials 10-19-08

I'm still editing pics, but here's a couple from yesterday. These pictures were taken from a very fast turbo charged twin engine Cessna Seneca II.

Pardon my ignorance but what is that squat building under construction to the far right of this picture (it looks like a staircase from 405)?

Thanks.

That's one of the two new Ashwood Commons buildings u-c, adding to the existing third tower. Actually it has a new name these days.

Those aerials show that there is still significant opportunity for growth in some of the surface lots. Bellevue could have a whole different skyline after the next boom...

Definitely. It could still double in the same 400 acres.

City Center 2 has some decent lighting around the perimeter of the top....which I get to enjoy now that it's dark out when I leave work

On a side note- I really think the Bellevue Towers are some of the best looking buildings that have gone up in the metro recently. I'm excited to see how the residential towers of the Bravern turn out as well as they gain height quickly... I think they'll be more classic and timeless looking if the renderings are true to reality.

Oh, and another thought after looking at those awesome aerials that Hans provided.... if Bellevue were ever to lift height limits to the 600' range, a perfect spot for a tallest aesthetically may be in the parking lot across the street from the Paccar building where that furniture store is.

Bellevue needs to raise their height limits. The skyline is getting too flat topped with the 4 tallest towers being almost the same height.

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing today. It's weird going into downtown Bellevue. The buildings are pretty, and it seems oddly futuristic, but there's a lot of empty/unutilized space, and it needs to be balanced out by a couple buildings that exceed 40 stories.

Beautiful city!

Is there any historic center in Bellevue? Everything looks so new. Bellevue is what a new city should look like.

Sort of. In the second-to-last aerial you can see a lowrise/midrise area near the water. That's called Old Bellevue. Actually much of it is newer midrise construction. And the "Old" part is from the 40s or thereabouts. But the main street (Main Street) is nice and narrow, and it feels more traditional.

Bellevue could also use more interesting midrise glassy designs like the Avalon(?) buildings, and up the color variations and vibrancy.
