I think the skyline is pretty decent for a city it's size. What do you think?

London's skyline looks good, but it's a little small for a city approaching 500,000. Halifax and Victoria both have better skylines.

It's London after the shoddily-built stucco boxes that comprise its skyline cave into themselves. But don't worry, your georgeous courthouse is still standing tall.

Saskatoon, about 5 years ago. Of note, you can see one of PotashCorp's mines in the far distance of the photo. That's the Cory Division mine, about 5 minutes outside the city.

Are there any plans to build an embankment (like the one on the Thames in London or Vancouver's sea wall) along the river so people can enjoy the water's edge?

Actually, yes... something along those lines. It's all part of a complete redevelopment of Saskatoon's south downtown known as River Landing. In the photo above we're looking at downtown from roughly the northeast, so River Landing is beyond those twin-like towers on the riverbank beside the Delta Bessborough.

As part of River Landing is a completely rebuilt riverwalk along the river's shore. In fact, most of the public space that's part of the project is now complete, and it's already a massively popular place for people to go. Much more to be built at River Landing, however.

Thanks for the information. I love embankments. Hopefully, Saskatoon will get something like this rather than some primitive 'path through the woods':

Tranquility.

There's some great aerial photos in that flickr stream.

This one made me pause for a moment.

It is a great photo, but it highlights the difficulties of getting a good shot of Saskatoon. There are still quite a few highrises (by Stoon standards) out of view to the right. Plus the way the river is situated it's difficult to get the bridges into the shots. Regina's skyline is usually deemed more robust than Saskatoon's but on paper it's really not the case, I think it's a product of this difficulty of photographing Stoon (although I'll concede Regina wins on quality, especially when Moscaic and Capital Pointe are done).

As for the embankment, as it's been mentioned much work has been done on the south downtown. I would be wary to develop the riverbank between the University and Broadway bridges. I quite like it in its natural state, its not uncommon to see beavers right in the middle of the city.

I think you are right in that Regina and Saskatoon are actually pretty close in quantity of highrises. I think part of it is that Regina's are much more central/not as spread out length-wise, so it gives the impression of a more impressive core. Also Regina's are mostly office buildings, and not apartments (which Saskatoon has more of), and office buildings are almost always heavy on the glass, which again makes it more impressive (touching on the quality comment of yours).

I still wish Cameco would move downtown... They could really build something amazing in Saskatoon if they wanted too... And Potash Corp could also do something awesome if they moved some of their workforce back/concentrated it in Toon.

And I am also very much on your side for not developing some areas of the Meewasin trail. I like the natural state as well. The downtown side I think would be fine being developed, but the South I think should mostly remain "untouched".

A closeup on the ugliest new building in London: The Harrison.

Luckily the twin office towers behind it (Talbot Centre) are the saving grace of the photograph.

Also this building, The Renaissance, is getting a twin too.

Here's a short, interesting video that shows a train traveling with the London skyline in the background.

Video Link

London is home to the fourth busiest rail station in the country.
