Jasper on Rincon Hill - The Ugly Duckling!

I was very happy when Rincon II was built, a building I like very much, which is a lovely companion to Rincon I. Then comes Jasper & ruins the view from my apartment. I agree with you folks - it is a disaster in a prominent location that the city planning department should never have allowed to happen.

The old design had all those ugly "shelves" like bad furniture that held parks at a few levels of the tower.

i have made several negative comments about Cleetus(oh, i mean "Jasper").
those of us in the city are viewing the elevator core.
if anything and looking at the cup half full when compared to one rincon(s), at least they used similar materials and a similar glass (color).

with respect to all the comment about Marriott. i was a kid when it was built.
there is a magic number that massively determined it's bulk, shape and size.
The magic number is "1500".

i just wrote john king about an email address. i am personally trying to communicate with the planning commission. basically, that the same mistake should not be made with 50 first street. ie., a great norman foster east face and a mess on the back, just like Jasper.

if anyone has an email address to the planning dept or for those in charge of approving these buildings, please let me know.

I asked because the video was labelled Kilroy, but Kilroy (and others) lost out to Golub.

Yes, with the John Buck Company, both Chicago firms. The current design for Park Tower at Transbay is the other, with which we are familiar (the "shelf design").

Medical Building - Geary Street between Polk & Van Ness

I walked by this demolition site today & was surprised as to how many buildings are being razed for the medical building, across from the new hospital being built on Van Ness. A look at Google Earth street view shows that there were 7 buildings before the demolition started. You can see the massive steel frame of the hospital in the upper left of the picture.

The Fremont side (left in this shot, out of view) of PG&E's substation is shameful--decrepit light fixtures dangling from the side of the building, missing street trees, filth, etc. The City needs to get on them!

You might want to post the medical building photos here since it is part of the campus. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...=173688&page=3

Sorry for not explaining that link I posted; it clearly shows a design that was not used. Especially considering the old design for 50 First Street that's in it. But maybe we'll get something similar for the other 500 footer planned for that area...?

Here are a few links featuring Related's Transbay Block 8 (note the redesign) and tower on the former Goodwill site:

They should turn it into a living wall. This area is desperate for greenery to offset all the pollution (which you can see has collected over the years on the facade).

The Unveiling of 101 Polk Street

Today, Wednesday, we get the first look at 101 Polk Street's exterior. For a closer look click on the photo to see it in Flickr at full resolution. The view is from the 14th floor of the Essex Fox Plaza.

150 Van Ness Avenue Demolition.

Across the street from 101 Polk Street the demolition continues on the former automobile association building & garage. A 13 story apartment building will occupy the area from Van Ness Avenue to Polk Street fronting Hayes Street. It will be interesting to see what the wind pattern is like in 2 years!

The view is from the 14th floor of the Essex Fox Plaza.

Hayes Valley

from around Hayes Valley... I don't remember addresses for these; I'll try to give approx intersections

I think this is the NW corner of Grove and Gough

looking east on Fulton from Gough

the large development at Fulton and Laguna. looking west up Fulton:

... and back east

on Hayes, across from Patricia's Green:

a couple of evening views of the 55 Laguna complex. looking north on Laguna:

... and west up the Waller steps:

Page and Franklin
