Oh how would I love Anaheim to drop a couple games and have a 4th vs 5th seed playoff series between Edmonton and Calgary. Rogers would blow their load on viewership numbers for a battle of Alberta playoff series!

San Jose stumbling a bit and the three below them not has somewhat shrunk the difference, Pacific first place still might be questionable. Wouldn't that be something if the San Jose fell into a wild card spot.

Yeah I'm super stoked for playoffs, just got my pricing for my seats the other day, went up about 40% over the season, and will go up each round, but still not bad.

Agreed! we want Anaheim, time to get that monkey off our back!

So Tkachuk got 2 games, seems to be a fair suspension for a pretty blatant elbow. Hopefully the coaches sit him down and get him to wise up, kids tough, but he needs to be smart too.

San Jose now has just a 2 point lead for the division lead and are only 5 points up on the first wild card spot, all of a sudden the Pacific is turning into a four horse race.

As it stands all three Canadian teams in the Atlantic division have playoff spots at this point. Toronto will need to keep playing as they have been to hang onto third spot though. When was the last time all three teams made the playoffs?

Not as long ago as you think. Just in 2013
Leafs played the Bruins. I forget how that turned out.
Habs faced the Sens.

Seems like ages ago. Ugh I forgot about those Boston games coming back from a 3-0 series lead by Boston to only chocked big time in the 3rd period in game 7. Weren't the Leafs up like 5-0 going into the third?

I only wish it was Montreal, Toronto, Boston and the Rangers going through. We've all been rivals since the original 6 days.

Can someone explain to me how the Leafs are ahead of the Rangers.

For playoff positioning purposes the standings work like this

The top 3 teams in each division make the playoffs.
The next 2 best teams by conference are the "Wild Card" teams and become the de facto 7 and 8 seeds in the playoffs.

Since the Rangers are 4th in the Metro, they are the 1st Wild Card and, effectively, the 7th playoff seed. If the playoffs were to start today, they'd play Montreal in the first round.

Clear as mud

The same way the Sens and the Habs are. We are in the Atlantic division and the Rangers are in the Metropolitan. The Habs would be fighting for a wildcard spot right now if they were in the Metropolitan division and the Sens and Leafs would be out. Technically the Leafs still have a chance to catch the Habs which is why nobody has clinched a spot yet in the Atlantic.

Rooting for the Habs, Sens, Leafs, Flames and Oilers to make the playoffs.

Once that's done, all bets are off and I'll revisit who I'm rooting for.

Not bad, go from no teams in the playoffs to potentially 5! I'd prefer to see no all Canadian match-ups in the first round too.

Oh man, it would be so much fun seeing the Bruins miss the playoffs 3 years in a row.

I want Carolina to make it too! Their 50 fans deserve it.

The Canadian teams are stepping it up down the stretch too. Ottawa, Montreal, and Edmonton are locks for the playoffs. Calgary keeps winning and the Leafs have been playing playoff level hockey the last 3-4 games to solidify that third place spot. It's a foreign feeling for younger Leafs fans to be so confident in your team to show up in important games.

Not sure why he even started last night, and there is no way he should be starting Saturday. He needs some rest.
