So, kind of the inverse of Ontario, California. Interesting. Thanks! I never knew there was a movement of Acadians to the midwest. They must have been totally assimilated.

Ohio rd. Shediac

Well some Acadian Historians seem to thinks that it refers to old french acadian expression ( Au hailot ) which means... far up river.....
An example of this is St Antoine NB....It is often referered to as ( Le Hailot de Cocagne ) especially by the elderly residents..... So one would say let go ( Au hailot )..... So The Ohio Rd would have probably led to ( Le hailot ) now called Haute Aboujagane....which is up river....

Can't corroborate 100% but I believe this is also the origin of the name Ste Marie Higho (convenience store a bit upriver in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent).

From the Minutes of the February Anglophone East District Education Council meeting
The biggest thing to note is that it will be ready for the fall of 2027
"New Shediac K-12
The Superintendent/CEO thanked the following nine committee members for
their hard work: Dominic Vautour, Kathy Lloyd, Kent Carter, Danny Pellerin, Dan
Fournier, Pascal Landry, Aubrey Kirkpatrick, Candance Scott, Sarah Lowe. The
Superintendent/CEO then explained the process of such initiative. The expected
finish date is estimated to be of June 2027, and ready for the school year of 2027-
2028.

Dominic Vautour, member of the DEC, took the time to discuss and go over the
10-page document, highlighting key aspects of the design process. Rather than
focusing on limitations, the emphasis was on the target design enrollment. The
new school will integrate innovative design concepts aimed at creating
adaptable learning environments. Notably, flexibility was a key consideration,
with features such as movable walls and sliding whiteboards to optimize
classroom space and support teachers' instructional needs. Additionally, the
design incorporates polished exposed aggregate floors and other amenities. The
inclusion of peace and friendship spaces, accommodating practices like
smudging, further enhances the school's functionality. With an envisioned
enrollment spanning from kindergarten to eighth grade, accommodating 70
students per level and 75 for other grades, the school's total capacity is expected
to reach 1,146 students.
A member asked the question about outdoor facilities. Dominic Vautour replied
and provided the answered that there will be multiple sports fields, full size
football field and outdoor learning classroom. In addition to the option of EV
charging for cars and busses. Net zero policy was discussed."

Makes sense in a tourism town. A good catch!

The ice cream shop is likely Lost & Found Ice Cream. They are affiliated with Halo Donuts.

I’m not on Facebook, but a friend of mine is and screenshotted a post by someone with this very intriguing part:
Quote:
The building will hosts the towns first ever food hall with Halo Donuts, Lost & Found Ice Cream, Vibe Juice, a coffee shop and a yet to be announced national brand franchise restaurant. St-Louis' Bar & Grill will also be opening on the other side of the retail component of this building.
I’m hoping Mary Brown’s!!

I wonder how many ice cream shops Shediac can handle, it seems like there is one on every corner. Between Rosies, Halley's, Ice Cream Delight, Dairy Queen and now Lost & Found, i think the ice cream market in Shediac is over-loaded.

The Food Hall is well located across the street from the outdoor community area that seems to be home to many family events in the summer. I assume they will be busy. A big improvement from the old run down buildings that use to occupy that space.

I agree , tourist town or not that stretch is over saturated with shops that will have a hard time competing with one another . I personally would like to see a craft brewery on Main Street. Moncton is flooded with them and most are doing well . a more vibrant night life could benefit the town as not everyone wants to go to point to Chene for a night out .
