I'm so glad to see this moving forward and with what seems like some seriously concrete plans to hit the ground running.
Now we wait for designs lol

Thought this project died. It's been several years since we heard anything about it. Good to see it moving forward. 2023 is going to be a busy year for construction here.

Yeah this was super great to see. With the Grafitti project still moving along there will hopefully be some big changes happening in that corridor!

The progress on the Grafitti site is quite noticeable now as well.
For the longest time, it always looked like the thought was there to do some actual work but now its most definitely moving forward and at a good clip too

Farhis river front tower got final approval to move forward.
Excited to see some new construction in that area! Hopefully some dominoes will fall now and we'll see more action.

Hopefully Farhi actually builds it. A new highrise in Windsor would be great.

He’s planning for two towers on that corner, which would be perfect, along with a possible new library and St. Claire College mixed use building at the corner of riverside and Church St.

I think there are about 5 highrise proposals for downtown currently, hopefully more to come!

The Sandwich south/hospital lands require a large amount of infrastructure that currently isn't there. Farhi owns much of the land out there. Now we are hearing the city will consider scrapping development fees for the area. This will place a large burden on Windsor taxpayers. Also, Transit will need significant improvement to the area. At what point do we revisit amalgamation to expand our tax base? I believe the population of the surrounding municipalities is now greater than Windsor.

I'm sure Windsor would love to amalgamate Tecumseh and LaSalle but it's the province that needs to make that happen.

I was very disappointed when all of the amalgamations happened years ago and Windsor was left out, especially when Windsor, Lasalle and Tecumseh are essentially one main urban area. It just didn’t make sense to leave us out.

We think NIMBYism is bad... imaging the outcry from the residents of Tecumseh and LaSalle if that were to happen.
As much as I personally am in favor of it, I don't see it happening in my lifetime.

Nice to see some potential positive change!

The amalgamation thing was an abject failure. Essex would make an ideal candidate for becoming a "Region" like Waterloo and Peel still are. Putting all, or just part, of the county into one municipal government would just end up making it another Hamilton or Ottawa. The politics are not good.

I think it's inevitable. The towns are growing rapidly, especially Lakeshore. Windsor needs the right leaders who are not in bed with the suburbs.

The risk is suburban and rural councillors ending up pitted against those in the "city" even if their wards are part of the urban area. Different needs, different finances, different planning for the future. This can result in stalemates about big decisions.

Then there's a risk of suburban and rural residents being upset that their tax dollars are going to support the old central city's needs, and that may stifle progress in things like redeveloping the downtown or dealing with aged infrastructure. There's little understanding about municipal finances, even among the people elected to make decisions about it.

Better to decide locally though than have it decided by the province.

I can totally picture that. And there's already such a disdain for Windsor from its neighbours. But I think in time as their tax rates rise and debt increases (as it has been) they could come knocking in the future. Or not

Damned if they don't join, damned if they do.

The province needs a "new deal" with its municipal creatures. Can't keep downloading expenses and uploading powers forever! (or at least Ford-ever)

My grandparents lived just off Riverside near that marina, on Riverdale. I know it well, walked down there many times! And Lilly Kazzilly's (not far out of frame, below and east of the marina) was a favourite restaurant of my grandma though I think she liked the name the most... I see it's now "Harbour House"

Windsor forecast to lead the nation in economic growth rate.

Amazing news for the city! From the Conference Board of Canada.
