I love taking in a show at the Adler Theater (1931) in Davenport. I usually enjoy the architecture from my seat as much as the show itself.

Some amazing stuff here - Buffalo city hall looks spectacular.

Hardly any art deco where I live - the only thing I've found is this 1930s band shell.

On the downtown square of Fairfield, Iowa is the two-story MidwestOne Bank.

(Sorry about the teeny image.)

Fairfield is the home of Maharishi University of Management and the downtown streets have an vibe more urban than other cities of about 9,000.

A building I'm in every day, Fairfield High School, was completed in 1939, and in the front doors is a large plaque with Franklin D. Roosevelt's title followed by the local PWA (Public Works Administration) leaders. Unfortunately, I didn't find any pics offhand...

Some suburban Art Deco from Ardmore, just a bit outside of Philadelphia. Oddly enough, the local historical commission doesn't seem to have anything on this building on W. Lancaster Avenue.

Most Rhode Island cities never got much Art Deco, probably due to more traditional tastes up here.

Outside of downtown Detroit, there is an interesting style that became very popular in Detroit in the first half of the last century. It was an interesting twist on Art Deco for the city. It includes basic Art Deco geometry but with Spanish-Moorish embellishments. Sometimes, you can barely tell they are Art Deco. They are generally on the city's upper west and northwest sides.

I had the opportunity to travel to Detroit a few weeks ago and made a point of visiting the Guardian Building. I had never been inside before. Wow! What a spectacular space.

The design lingo of Art Deco/Streamline Moderne was a versatile one that could apply to almost anything utilitarian - trains, cars & planes, wrist watches, apartment buildings, churches, table utensils, etc. Here's a classic deco streetlamp from Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan:
