Yes, Houston has densified downtown a ton in the past twenty years, I would know; I lived in Houston House apartments. But, it hasnt add a whole new section to the skyline like Dallas has. I was trying to start an argument over it but Dallas has expanded the downtown a ton to the north of downtown. Houston has densified its downtown, but the skyline hasn't moved away from the core, unlike Dallas. Obviously, theres TMC, The Galleria Area and to some extent new skyscrapers going up in Montrose and around there.

The two aerial views taken from Google Maps do not even include the two buildings under construction in the center of this photo taken by Marc Longoria and posted on Flickr.
Nor do they include the 42-story residential tower currently going up near Discovery Green Park.

Houston 4th of July!
by Marc longoria, on Flickr

In the time period in question, 4 buildings over 600 feet tall have been built. 2 of those buildings are over 700 feet tall.

You're missing 1500 Louisiana & Garage next door, Criminal Courthouse, Aquarium, GRB Expansion, Green Street, The Rustic, Surrounding Apartments outside of Downtown (Washington Cooridor, Eado, Midtown), 2 UHD Buildings, South Texas College of Law, The Co-Cathedral, Root Square, The donut apartments catty corner to Houston House, The Hotel a block from Toyota Center, Apartments in the north east corner (by the 59 entrance to Hamilton), YMCA, Fire Station bottom left corner, New Garage (awaiting the Tower next to Market Square), Unfortunately, another garage in front of the old Double Tree/C. Baldwin, BBVA and surrounding apartments, Hamilton, Apartments next to the AT&T building, You highlighted the Hobby Center but not it's garage.

Anyway, good visual

Edit:

To all comparing Houston & Dallas. Just stop. We're way more similar than we are different.

And the TMC... don't even get me started on the TMC. I'm sure it will rival almost all the other DTs in the US by then.

Houston > *
I remember reading somewhere that TMC rivals downtown Denver in size. That was some years ago. I'm sure it's exceeded it now. Are this rate of adding new towers, all of these high-rise districts will merge and man what a sight that'll be!

DFW passed Houston sometime in the late 80's.

Why...I oughtta...

I considered 1500 Louisiana but decided against it since it was basically complete when Enron collapsed in 2001.

It kind of has. Pretty much everything east of Houston Center is new, with the exception of the GRB.
Plus these two towers are currently under construction. Is it as impressive as that photo of Dallas? Not yet...
.
.
And lest we forget: Houston's DT skyline is also expanding to the North.

OK! FINE! I'll make it red! See if I care! Whatever!

I'm not doing crappy parking garages...just the Lyric Market garage because I like that one... and the Hilton garage that I accidentally did.

Chevron is not flush with cash as it once was and is contending with declining revenue and market share. Oil and gas in general is a sunsetting industry. I just hope Houston is able to transition away enough to weather the decline in the coming decades.
