yeah that building certainly could use a restoration. And it would be nice to see the empty lot next door built on:

Those two buildings could be restored quite nicely. What they desperately need is a return to their original brick or stone facades and

My photo from today:

Also, here is my photo from a few days ago showing that odd coloured glass panel in the middle of the curtain wall - the adjacent pillar looks different on that floor too:

Maybe an enlarged bathroom requiring privacy?

Note the two steel columns on the north side of the roof - guess that'll be the height of the mech penthouse on this side.

Canopy Trim

There's a new canopy trim that started to go on the Georgia entrance yesterday. I snapped a couple iPhone pics today.

Here's what it looks like from across the street.

Here's what it looks like up close:

The same faceplate connectors are on the higher level glass canopy on the Howe Street side, so I assume we can expect the same over there.

BTW, the flags simply announce the hotel is coming soon. I cannot say specifically what they say, but words to that effect.

All of the upper balconies on that corner will have them.
I think it cheapens the design.

WRT the flags - there are either new flag brackets on the facade of the top floor of the hotel too, or they are spotlights - can't quite tell.

I love how every pic with the "Georgia" lettering looks like a vintage photograph. In that sense, the brown colour and the font really works well. The decourative face plate is kinda sad though... that pattern was actually designed by the architectural firm (Endall Elliot) that did the entire reno design.. and they put lots of work into it (no comment in terms of whether it makes it good or not..). It will wrap both upper canopies, and will illuminate from within the panel, and be dimmable.. should look nice, especially at night!

As much as I would have preferred something more 3D during the day... This should look really neat at night!

This building just nailed the details. The treatment of the hotel portion is just spectacular, and the tower turned out much better than I expected it to.

As great as I think this project is going to be as well, I feel it's a real shame that there cannot be a rooftop restaurant on the hotel.

Sure I know it wouldn't be as profitable, so it is precluded as such, but to me it's a shame anyway. Perfect city centre location for it, could have been a real tourist draw.
