If that ridiculous little rooftop motel is replacing the hotel tower, it seems like a big enough change that it ought to call the whole project into question. I hope the city and state haven't already committed to too much and lost their leverage.

The justification for allowing a casino in Chicago was that we could create something prominent and glamourous that would draw in out of town/state tourists and their money. How likely is that to happen with this new tower-less design, especially given that there are currently no other hotels in the immediate neighborhood? It seems like Bally's is giving up on the original mission.

Has anyone reached out to the alderman for this area?

I really hope it is designed with the structural capacity to be expanded upwards as a later phase. I imagine it would look quite nice if they repeated that hotel form upwards to create a tower, but if it as it is shown in the rendering is the final form, that is certainly disappointing. Still really wish they had chosen the rivers at the 78 proposal.

I had assumed at first that the plot of land next to Chicago was not included in this new plan and that they would be able to build the original highrise when they got the funding. Does anybody have the plans for this new design that we can see in better detail?

I don't have any detailed plans unfortunantely. The plot of land on the north side of chicago ave is a seperate development being planned, which you can see here. The hotel tower was originally supposed to be on the south side of Chicago ave, at the north of the casino site.

^Right. I was hoping they left a small space on the south side of Chicago Ave.

This looks like they put a warehouse on the banks of the Chicago River. Embarrassing

Someone warned that the Medinah Temple would wind up becoming the permanent casino and at this point that wouldn’t shock me. What an absolute joke

Seems like a good outcome -- it's small, centrally located, near the el, and in a building that is very hard to fill. A Bally's warehouse on the river puts Chicago on pretty much the same footing as Pittsburgh.

Possibly they could add a tower later over the porte-cochere area at the SE corner of Chicago & Jefferson. Or they could do a separate tower west of Jefferson, with a skybridge connection into the casino.

Oof. Yeah a friend of mine in the industry told me a couple months ago that the hotel tower might be getting removed.

I say the city go to Bally's and tell them to F off and re-open a competition to the other companies. This is not what was presented to the city, and I would rather see the thing scrapped then a half-ass project go up.

But Bally's already paid their bribes to the previous administration. It would be shitty of Chicago to renege on that deal now.
