This is (IMO) the best looking building going up in Dubai in current time. Perhaps it's because I like box architecture, and this is the closest thing to it in this city (at least it looks that way to me).

I think it's got an awesome gotham look to it; not to mention it's enormous. What is the square footage?

The building is on the 70th marked floor at the moment (or 75th level above ground). Current height seams to be around 290 meters.

If they change colour from current dark-grey to white-grey or white (as in renderings), the building will look better a lot.

This design has grown on me a lot. At first it was "well, okay" but now it says "big modern corporate slab" like the Chase Manhattan Bank in NYC or Chase Tower in Chicago were in their days. There's more to aesthetics than looking pretty... sometimes it's projecting a strong, modern image, or else projecting a feeling of airy open interior space. This is why brutalist buildings can look so appealing even if they're not elegant.

For all you lovers of massive imposing towers there's another one going up on the plot below the completed tower on the right.

I read back a few posts and was surprised by how many people dislike this building (the Index). It is my favorite building in Dubai.

To me the building signifies strength and dignity. Perhaps it's because I'm from Chicago...
where many of our buildings are 'broad shouldered' and massive.
The Index reminds me of Chicago's Chase
(previously...1st National Bank Building)

It dates from 1969 and is 259m or 850 ft tall.
It was quickly overshadowed by the Hancock Bldg...Sears Tower
....and the Aon Bldg (originally Standard Oil) in quick succession.

Unfortunetly it seems like it wouldn't be as nice as the rendering.
It's turing out grey...

Frankly it looks like a throwback to the late '60's / early '70's. It's also just what Dubai needs.

wow the crane goes from the ground to the top.
it's still ugly to me because it's too massive..these wings are only fat concrete blocks...
