Scarritt :: Part of KANSAS CITY'S historic northeast

I went to Scarritt and came away with 87 photos. Here are 45 of them.

I want to see more neighborhood photos of KC. When I was there in 2002, I only got to see downtown and a couple of other neighborhoods south of downtown.

I'm gonna try to get more neighborhood scenes in the coming weeks/months. It's all ice and cold here at present, though.

I think the words sturdy and urban apply here. Looks like a place with a nice future in front of it, and the great history behind it. Thanks for the tour Tosspot.

Scarritt, my old hood, is part of a larger neighborhood cluster usually called Northeast or Old Northeast, which is abutts the CBD's northeast corner and runs east along Independence Ave for about 3 miles. Scarritt lies north of the Avenue and east of Chestnut, about two miles due east of the River Market.

Seeing the street sign of Benton Blvd, a thought occured to me - does the name have any connection to Thomas Hart Benton?

I wouldn't think that it is named after him, but his great-uncle (and namesake) was a senator from Missouri. I believe there were some other politicians in the family as well. Anyone know the story behind the name of the street?

Benton BLVD is named after Thomas Hart Benton, who lived in Midtown and taught for many years at KCI (in fact, Pollack studied under him).

Thanks for the info.
I would have thought that if there were a boulevard named for him it would have been in Valentine or near the Art Institute.
