Off the stadium topic, but something interesting on the Wilshire Grand Project. It appears to have a dedicated website now. Im not sure if its been mentioned or posted yet, but it has a some interesting insight into the project.

It also features a couple of videos and a downloadable PDF. The video seems a bit dated, as I had seen it on a news report in 2009, before the official heights were released...so the rendering seems a bit short compared to the newest rendered images that more clearly show the heights given of 1'250 ' for Twr A and 750' for Twr B

Interesting. It appears there's a Google Earth 3d Model of the building shown in one of the videos.

Here are a couple of pics I found from the meeting that took place on the project. The model really shows the soaring height of the towers and how much they will impact the skyline. Its more accurate of the height of the towers than the previously seen models.

Models look great. I'm still very impatiently waiting for news. Just-in-Cali, did you go to the meeting or did you find the pics on the web? If you went, did you get any more info on financing, clearing of developmental hurdles?

Nice model !
From that angle, the taller tower looks really slender, very elegant.

Im sorry to say I didnt go to the meeting, found the picture by a simple google image search under "wilshire grand project". The pics come from a facebook page that seems to be for a group called the "International brotherhood of Electrical Workers". Couldnt find any further info. There is a short video someone took of the same model in the pics, but no details
Im keepin my eye open on it though!

Yeah, the model is worthy of its height. Very nice.

Spire Needs Work....

Beautiful building, only wish the spire finished more elegantly as opposed to simply looking like an after thought....

It already is a new tallest. 1200 feet is much bigger then the U.S. Bank Towers current 1018 (I believe that is the height). They have released newer renders that show the height much better.

Well, yeah, we know that now.

From today's LA Times. More in the link.

Billion-dollar Wilshire Grand project could light up downtown Los Angeles with ads

A pair of new Los Angeles skyscrapers could dramatically alter the lights of downtown, reigniting the city's long-running fight over outdoor advertising.

If developers of the proposed billion-dollar Wilshire Grand project have their way, such colorful images as stars, butterflies and waterfalls would fade in and out along the upper floors of both their planned 45-story hotel and their 65-floor office tower, thanks to thousands of tiny lights embedded in the buildings' surface.

Both skyscrapers would see their lowest 10 floors emblazoned with an array of commercial images, from flashing digital signs to streaming "news ribbons."

Supporters say the plan, modeled after similar technology on the Chanel building in Tokyo and the Cira Centre in Philadelphia, would bring energy and vibrancy to a stretch of downtown — the Figueroa Corridor — that already is being remade by the L.A. Live complex a few blocks to the south.

Opponents say the plan would reopen the way for turning high-rise towers into massive versions of the electronic billboards that have generated protests in many parts of the city.

Two cool things about this. BOTH skyscrapers and 10 FLOORS. Those are big, potentially awesome, billboards.

So what's all this about the taller one being unofficially dead? What's stoking that pessimistic fire?

Because the smaller one is being built first. And well..... you know how things go in this economy.
