LONDON 2007 [2] Shad Thames

Here is a walking tour of the Shad Thames area, just east of Tower Bridge on the south side of the Thames, where there are a number of conversions and new residentials.

Nice area, but extraordinary prices!

This is an area I never visited when I was in London. Very interesting! Can't say I like that fountain though... This looks really cool!

Good pictures of an interesting area - there is one cool square of curved apartments with a weird looking horse statue in the middle that you missed though!

Tower Bridge history

@Chelsea Spy, the curved apartments are a 1980's development called The Circle - avant garde architecture at the time, but it still looks terrific today.

The horse statue is a nod to the history of the area where the Courage brewery dray horses were stabled in the 1800's and delivered beer around London from the brewery in Horselydown by Tower Bridge.

'Jacob' the horse statue was commissioned by Jacobs Island Company, delivered by helicopter and installed in the centre of the Circle in October 1987.

The statue sits proudly in front of our underground car park near Tower Bridge.

Wow that's a old thread bump.

This area has changed immensely in nearly 10 years, btw. Particularly with the development of the nearby Shard and other developments south of the river, and Bermondsey becoming much trendier.
