An example of a good reason to not have ground level retail.

Good to know, thanks for the info. What about the stuff facing Lamar? I'm not proposing kicking out the non-wealthy or locally owned shops by any means, but I'm wondering with all of the development what is game and what isnt.

those shops are reaaaal shallow bc of the road running behind them. It may happen one day but it would require removing a street and finding a low income housing solution. probably one of the last spots to be redeveloped on S Lamar.

the mcdonalds/bike shop and cvs/office depot and food trailer park are my bets.

Coverage of the Hilton skybridge project with new renderings . . . which thankfully include the Cap Metro downtown station expansion as well.

We need to preserve our entertainment districts, yet another sign the city needs to step it up.

$7.5 million? For 50 feet of overhead walkway? That's open to the elements? That's so narrow that you almost have to walk single file if someone is coming the other way? It looks like the guy in the red hat is waiting for the walkway to clear so he can pass. $7.5 Mil. That seems excessive to me. That has to be a typo. Not that the AAS ever makes mistakes....just yesterday they ran an article about two tough games that are coming up on the Lady Longhorn's schedule when they have to battle Texas and Baylor.

Sometimes the toughest battle is between the ears.

Adler's downtown puzzle is how to fix it but it keeps getting punted by Laura Morrison's posse.

I'm not sure what a cigar shop closing says anything about an entertainment district declining? Last time i checked Dirty Sixth is still a lively entertianment area. How exactly is it declining?

If you're going by traffic, it's not declining. It's busy pretty much every night of the week. You couldn't say that 10-20 years ago.

I'm not sure I understand what his beef is exactly. I can't imagine he's seen less traffic into this shop. Maybe he doesn't like the clientele he sees now compared to before?

Ding Ding Ding...or that he is just old, tired and jaded. Old timers love to pine for the good old days.

I've been listening to music on dirty 6th for 30 years......even now. Its better now than ever. Always a wild mix of people, tourists, kids, drunks, homeless, etc.

Nostalgia is often times seriously overrated. There are many things that I've pined for from my younger days that I wish I would have left in the past. TV shows, restaurants, people, etc. When revisiting, I'm often left disappointed by my rosy recollection of them. It actually a bummer when you go back and end up thinking, "Wow. This sucks."
