East side of Stony is almost complete. My guess is that they'll open it up and close the West side soon. Possibly at the same time that Cornell from 59th to Hayes is permanently closed and the DLSD->Hayes->Cornell->Stony route is opened.

Saturday

A couple updates. First an updated view that I'm just linking because it's giant, but you can see that they've already started to tear up Cornell Ave and at least most of the newly paved Stony Island is in service. Updated View by Doug Shaeffer

Also, the website did a major update that includes some renderings I've never seen before as well as some descriptions of the spaces. It's also possible I just missed them before.

Quote:
Exhibitions and Galleries
Dynamic Museum exhibits across four floors will highlight the events, policies, challenges, and accomplishments of the Obama Presidency. Rooted in the larger, complex discussion about democracy and the role of our nation's government since its founding, exhibitions will highlight the historical predecessors who made President and Mrs. Obama's stories possible and inspire visitors to push for change within their own communities.

Quote:
Sky Room
On the top floor of the Museum Building, the Sky Room will offer visitors a space to reflect, with sweeping views of Lake Michigan to the East, the skyscrapers of downtown Chicago to the North, and the South Side of Chicago to the West and South. The Sky Room will be free and open to the public.

Quote:
Lower Level
On the Lower Level, visitors can gather and discuss their time on campus, enjoy a snack or drink in the cafe, or shop in the retail store. Visitors will be able to participate in experiences that will encourage them to think about how to engage with their own communities, or walk over to the nearby program rooms and media suite in the Forum building.
The Lower Level will also feature a retail shop and café, connect to the Forum and its public programming, and link to several outdoor courtyards designed for both social interaction and quiet contemplation.

Quote:
Upon arriving, visitors will be welcomed into the heart of the Center—a public plaza that serves as a place for the Foundation and our neighbors to host informal and planned gatherings alike. Anchored by public art, the Plaza will connect the Forum, Library and Museum buildings, and be a space to host outdoor performances, markets, and fairs, named in honor of the late civil rights leader and Congressman, John Lewis.

Quote:
The Forum building will serve as a place to welcome the local community—a commons designed to bring people together. Largely built into the landscape of Jackson Park, the Forum will feature numerous collaborative and creative spaces, including the Hadiya Pendleton Winter Garden, the Elie Wiesel Auditorium, a recording studio, flexible program rooms and a restaurant. It will also provide plenty of spaces for people to relax, eat, do their homework, or play a game of chess.

Quote:
Similar to the garden that Mrs. Obama planted at the White House, this one will be a place where young people and community members can get their hands dirty and learn about growing fruits and vegetables—and there will even be a few bee hives for honey.

Quote:
The Ann Dunham Water Garden
The Water Garden will include a stone sculptural water feature from world renowned artist and architect, Maya Lin–best known for designing the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The piece is titled “Seeing Through the Universe.”

You can see more here including an brief construction update that shows part of the completed parking garage.

Good point. They make it seem like you can look every direction but I've never seen a rendering of the museum building with a 360 glass opening at the top.

Nitpicking over the word "sweeping". lol. They are still views.

Up close, I'll bet the gaps between letters will be plenty big enough.

There were a couple updates on the website including pictures and updates:

Quote:
At the south end of the site, the giant, white domed “huddle tent” is being dismantled to make way for the Programs & Athletic Center, which will begin construction in early 2024.

& Some even bigger update pictures from Doug Shaeffer

In case you didn't see, there are new renderings of the athletic center, which should break ground soon. The images are gigantic. Looks like there's going to be separate underground parking. Kinda crazy since the Obama Center has some massive garages right next door.

I really wonder if the idea for this facility is to replace the field house since it will also have meeting and event space. I have a feeling the field house is gonna be sitting empty after this is built. They've already talked about demolishing it in some versions of future park plans.
