THE JULIA AT ST. CHARLES

Located in the Warehouse District of New Orleans, The Julia at St. Charles is slated to be a mixed use development, consisting of luxury apartment units, parking garage, and over 17,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. The development’s 198 planned apartment units will be a mix of one- and two- bedrooms, and 150 off-street parking spaces will be available to tenants and retail customers alike.

Construction on the project began in November of 2017, and included demolishing a concrete parking structure to make room for the new post-tensioned concrete and wood frame structure. The new development will retain a historic carriage house, which will be utilized as rental offices and managerial space.

Palmisano completes work on new headquarters

New Orleans commercial and civil construction firm Palmisano is ready to move into its new headquarters along the riverfront in the Lower Garden District.

The company cut the ribbon on its new 30,200-square-foot facility at 1730 Tchoupitoulas St. Tuesday. A news release said the new 2-story office building was needed to accommodate a growing workforce that now tops 100 employees.

Designed with the help of New Orleans architects Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, the structure has an open floor plan with few private offices, multiple small and large conference rooms, a large outdoor terrace, in-house gym and yoga studio and green space. There’s also a large training room that houses the company’s employee development program, Palmisano University.

The $9 million project nearly doubles the office space the firm had at its previous location at the corner of Carondelet and Julia Streets.

Palmisano purchased the land for $1.5 million in 2015 from Baton Rouge-based Source Capital LLC

Thanks Tennis. Is this at Paris and Robert E. Lee? If so, does the site still call for outparcels? I think original plans called for one to occupied by a First NBC branch.

Oakwood Mall

A friend of mine informed me that Oakwood Mall purchased the closed down Sears building. "Something exciting and new to the NOLA market." He also said the Sears building will be abated and split up with this new tenant taking a big space (but not department store size) and the rest of the building will be carved and split into retail. Does anyone have any inside knowledge?!

(I live in Mid City but grew up in Terrytown. The more I think about it, Oakwood Mall is so freaking geographically perfect--5 minutes from downtown, first exit when you get to the Westbank and has TONS of open land behind the JC Penney. This could be something really good and transformative for that part of the Westbank. I think Esplanade Mall is more or less done. Besides Lakeside, I think Oakwood has a fighting chance.

Just my two cents but I tend to agree that as far as staying a mall Oakwood is better positioned than Esplanade... the lifting of the tolls really helped as well. I think esplanade will exist going forward but as a much more mixed use, open air center than it is now. they do have some developments there that will change its appeal: new apartment project, car max and the new airport terminal
