Downtown needs:

Canadian Tire
No Frills
Sobeys
Whole Foods
Target

I've said this many times. I love little boutiques and shops downtown, but if we are trying to push people to live downtown or inner city then we need more big box stores so we don't need to drive to the burbs all the time.

Meh we're getting a Sobeys as part of the new Erlton development, pretty much the same as Co-op and Safeway.

I've never been to Loblaws but from what I hear they offer lots of quality healthy products at reasonable price points. This is the one I'm looking forward to most.

Target's been a flop here, wouldn't really care if they open up shop in the inner-city.

Another big pick up.

The Core mall and Stephen Ave are amazing and getting better all the time.

Where is there space in The Core for Simons at 80,000-113,000 square feet?

I think there was rumors that it will go in the Lancaster building. If it's true, that will be great as that would mean there will be store frontage straight on to Stephen Avenue. This is very exciting news!

Beside The Unicorn? That's a sweet corner spot!

Agree, that would be a great corner. I actually don't love Simons like everyone else seems to, but I'm glad they chose Downtown as a launching pad in Calgary over Chinook/Crossiron etc.

Scaffolding has been up around the Lancaster for awhile. I'm assuming this could be a major project including reconfiguration to add adjacent mall sf to accommodate department store.

I just came. So beautiful. Can't McKinley Burkart just do every low and midrise in this city?

Does this mean the Unicorn will be gone?

I find some of the comments interesting. 90% of that rendering is how the building looks right now, the other 10% is mostly the glass boxes stuck onto the side and some coloured lighting.

That's the great thing about beauty. It's subjective, and in the eye of the beholder...

Looks pretty good to me. If anything the lighting, graphics on those glass boxes are a little off in the rendering.

Did what they could to preserve the historic exterior while adding some elements for visibility.

Just within a couple blocks of this on Stephen Ave, Barcelona Tavern just opened, Hy's opening in dec, and Cactus Club, Good Life Fitness and the new resto/cocktail lounge at The Bay should all be opening early 2015. Area's changing a lot.
