An AT&T Experience store has opened at the base of AT&T's headquarters building downtown and the lobby has been renovated to house "The Spirit of Communication," which was moved here from New Jersey.

I really like the addition to the Comerica Bank Tower. It takes away a dead spot for pedestrian activity, and it looks great.

That's a beautiful statue! It reminds me of the statue that we have on top of the Alabama Power Headquarters tower in downtown Birmingham.

Eating Out: A First Look at the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park's Planned Restaurant and Performance Pavillion
http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfa...ook_at_the.php

Plans call for a full restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating as well as a quick, casual café for people who wish to pick up a meal to enjoy in the park. The restaurant will also include space available to rent for private events.

The adjacent performance pavilion will be a central gathering space in the middle of The Park and serve as a place for free concerts and events. When not in use, the performance pavilion will have moveable tables and chairs for additional outdoor dining.

Groundbreaking for Woodall Rodgers park was today:

Ground breaking takes place for Woodall Rodgers deck park in Dallas

The 5.2-acre Woodall Rodgers deck park that some doubted would ever get built took one step closer to reality this morning as officials gathered for a groundbreaking.

The Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation held a celebration in Dallas, marking the end of the five-year planning phase of the urban park that will span across the freeway. The park will stretch three blocks between Pearl and St. Paul streets, linking the Uptown and downtown areas.

"Many people felt this couldn't be done – it's too complicated, too expensive and too much of a challenge for the city of Dallas. Today, we proved them wrong," said Jody Grant, park foundation chairman, during the celebration at the Parkside Condos.

By KEN KALTHOFF

http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/business/...-59412847.html

After a bitter referendum battle and decades of debate, Dallas broke ground Tuesday on the city-owned Dallas Convention Center Hotel.
City leaders marked the occasion with confetti, a marching band and a "Big D" hoisted by crane above the construction site on Lamar and Young streets
Voters endorsed the $500 million, city-owned hotel in May after a bitter referendum campaign, but the debate has...

Sorry if this is the wrong thread.... have they got the DART line finished yet to the State Fair grounds? I was there in January and it looked like they might make it. I'm hoping that will revitalize Deep Ellum a little bit

Yes, the DART has opened 4 new stations on the new Green Line (including 2 that serve Fair Park) just in time for this year's State Fair of Texas.

The old Dallas Statler Hilton is just sitting there for now, owned by foreign investors. Hopefully when the park is finished someone will want to use it for something. The Dallas Landmark Commission is pushing hard to save the structure ever since it was listed on the NTHP Most Endangered list in 2008. Here's a recent good article about the challenges: http://www.nbcdfw.com/around-town/re...-53071057.html

Since were talking about the trinity and parks. It was announced yesterday that the Continental bridge (which is the one on the left on that link you posted) will turn into a pedestrian bridge. Heres the article:

Trinity project gets $10 million gift to transform Continental bridge into pedestrian overpass
12:00 AM CDT on Friday, September 25, 2009

By RUDOLPH BUSH / The Dallas Morning News
rbush@dallasnews.com
A plan to convert the Continental Avenue bridge between downtown and West Dallas into an elaborate pedestrian boulevard complete with sidewalks, bike lanes and green spaces received a major boost Thursday.

The private Trinity Trust announced an anonymous $10 million gift to fund construction of many of the bridge's planned features, including a winding, tree-covered walkway.

The gift, in honor of Trinity Trust chairwoman Mary McDermott Cook, is expected to speed the bridge's transformation from a busy thoroughfare into a 2,000-foot-long, 50-foot-wide park between the levees.

"I'm so glad we are going to do something that will make a place in the Trinity – before we get all of the other work done – for all of the people of Dallas," said McDermott Cook, who has asked that the bridge not be renamed for her.

Thursday's announcement at the Trinity Trust on Oak Lawn Avenue was attended by celebrated Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, designer of two soaring white-steel bridges that supporters of the Trinity River project hope will become symbols of Dallas and a signal of the city's commitment to culture and beauty.

The first Calatrava-designed bridge, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, is under construction between the Woodall Rodgers Freeway and Singleton Boulevard...
